I would like to thank the entire staff for everything you did when we brought in my beloved Rudy on Sunday to be put to sleep to end his pain and suffering.😪 Your care, kindness and compassion made this difficult decision a little easier and will never be forgotten. Thank you also for the beautiful card, poem and the gift of his paw prints! ❤️🌈❤️Pam Howard and family
Last week my dog became rapidly sick over the course of 2 days becoming unable to keep down any food. By Wednesday morning I knew he needed treatment and our regular clinic would be full. When I arrived at the Animal Emergency Clinic the doors were locked and the staff informed me through a buzzer they were not taking any more pets at that time and I should just try my regular vet. They didn’t care what the emergency was and told me they could give me the information for a clinic over an hour away, (which I didn’t feel we had at that point). Luckily my own vet is kind and caring and saw him asap. They were astonished to hear we were turned away at the Animal Emergency Clinic and said this should never happen in an emergency. Turned out my dog had a softball size spleen tumor that needed emergency surgery (again so thankful my vet was willing/able to do it). It was dangerously close to bursting, which would have caused a terminal bleeding event had he not received immediate treatment. I understand that the world is understaffed at the moment, I understand staffing issues happen, However you should not be advertising yourself as an emergency clinic if you are going to turn away emergencies, period.
We had a horrible accident with a puppy we had just gotten and was referred to this place. We waited in agony for 3.5 hours only for them to tell us they couldnt do anything and to go to Madison. We wasted valuable time. We were also told she was stable enough to transport by the time we arrived in Madison she was barley breathing. I would never recommend this location. No compassion for our family or our pet.
My vet couldnt see my sick 15 yr old cat so referred me here. I reviewed website and saw nothing that said appointment needed or indicated not taking patients. Loaded up my sick old cat and went there. I was immediately asked as soon as Id taken 2 steps into lobby if Id made an appointment (at the ER!) then told they werent seeing patients unless for euthanasia. Suggested I take my sick cat who only needs a shot of antibiotics to a vet in Chicago suburb over 50 miles away! Then suggested Janesville (26 miles away) when asked if there was a local vet.Showed no regard for my beloved cats well being or mine (Im elderly & have COPD which is obvious).
I took my dachshund to the emergency vet, because he was in pain. He was acting completely out of character, and I explained his symptoms. He was diagnosed with constipation and dehydration. He was given fluids, a medicine for vomiting (even though he was not vomiting) and a doggie NSAID. By the next day he couldn’t walk. I called the clinic back and explained his worsening of symptoms and asked for something more to be done. I was told to call the University for surgery. My primary vet got him an appointment immediately the next morning. She looked at the X-ray from the ER and said he’s not constipated. He has a back injury, common in dachshunds. Precious time was lost due to the misdiagnosis. He is now paralyzed and required back surgery. I took him for help at the start of his symptoms and he did not get the help he needed. I pray this does not happen to another dog, and I pray my young dachshund can still have a complete recovery.
Last night around 12am my dog did something to his foot in our backyard causing him to bleed profusely. Nothing we did would stop the bleeding. I called the emergency clinic and they refused to see him and told me I could goto crystal lake or Madison. We wrapped the wound the best we could and I drove to crystal lake, I was terrified the entire drive that he would bleed out in my back seat. By the time we reached the emergency clinic in crystal they took him back right away and stopped the bleeding, his pulse was very weak and his gums were turning white because he lost so much blood. Thankfully the people at crystal lake were so helpful and they got him stable and performed surgery to fix the major laceration he had on the back for his paw. I am very upset the vet in Rockford they were rude to me on the phone, very cold and they didn’t even offer to help wrap it to get him to crystal lake since they know better then we do. I sincerely wish they weren’t the only emergency vet in town. I am coming to realize this vet often turns down dogs often even when it is critical.
Went there this past Saturday (04/30) afraid my small dachshund may have had an issue with his back/hips (thankfully turned out to be nothing - pulled muscle or something I guess). This was my first time visiting and I saw the not great reviews here, so I was expecting maybe not great service or excessive fees (Im used to emergency vet fees from where I lived previously, just havent been to this one before). I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. The fee/price seemed completely normal for me (actually cheaper than I expected) - $260ish for two x-rays and some pain meds. I was expecting worse. Also, every worker I met there was great. It got busy when I was there and it took a while to get my dog back even after I got the meds, etc, but they did get some more critical animals in while I was there, so that is understandable. I would not hesitate to go there again when in need. The employees answering the phones seemed great at answering questions over the phone (telling people how much of a wait there may be, how many critical patients they currently have, or even advice on whether or not it sounds like something serious, etc).
We had to bring my dog in after she suddenly couldnt walk or potty. There wasnt much we could do for my old lady and she had to be laid to rest. A the staff members were very kind and empathic. They treat Rory Grace so well. Im glad she had us and other nice people with her while she passed. The company they used for her cremation were also very kind. I couldnt be more grateful for everyone during this difficult time. Also I call these people often with questions about the dumb things my roommates dogs have ate. They never judge with weirdness of questions and are always offering up solutions to avoid bringing them in
1 star for Communication skills I took my puppy @noon went home hours past by never got a call so I called around 3:30pm and was told that I was next in line doctor will give me call waited almost an hour and nothing. Drove there around 4:30pm put me in a waiting room and waited a lil over 30min had to go ask front desk if he had forgotten about me. Doctor Kevin was nice can’t say nothing negative about him. Front desk was nice except one lady she gave me a little bit of an attitude when i declined medication since results came back good. I told her I get a discount at my vet and said something like if it wasn’t serious you shouldn’t of brought her in then…..Did not feel like arguing with her since it had been a long day already. I’m not a vet so I couldn’t of known she was okay that is why we pay to take our animals to them but okayyyy. I don’t know I don’t think I will be taking my doggy here again.
I have been to this clinic 3x and each time were very different situatilns. Today was our family furry friend which was extremely hard. Each time I have been to the clinic we were treated so kindly in all equally hard situations. Thankful they are available to our community.
My sister and I took a stray kitten to this emergency vet (her boyfriend found in my moms backyard bearly breathing). The Veterinarian we saw did not seem very compassionate and wasnt for sure on what was wrong with the kitten. We think kitten was having sezuires.Possible brain injury according to Vet Dr. We named him Jupiter. He was a beautiful cat. And if he was saved we of course would have kept him and made him part of our family.
If there was a way to select less then 1 star I would unfortunately! My boyfriend and I took our 15 week puppy to this facility 6/5 around 5am to be told they could not even look at her. She was was throwing up and had blood in her diarrhea with a fever. The person told us they would have to test her for PARVO and then turned around and said she had it but they were closing in 3 hrs so there was nothing they could do!! We had to drive all the way to Aurora. I dont know if the hours need to be updated but from what the website says its 24hrs so . I kept my nerves but Ive never seen such bad customer service . As far as I knew this was a animal clinic please do better for these babies that dont have a voice.
I was not able to say good bye to my pet, they nocked her out when she came in room I tried to move and it was like she was died already I was going to bring her to whisper willow they were going to do this but I took my other there before and they let me say goodbye this time my dog I was not able to say good bye yes this is a big thing to me, they have maybe different staff that dont care I am so sad they just dont how they hurt me. I never let any of my dogs die alone I was alway there to say goodbye they took that away from me.
Opening a new, bigger facility just to turn away patients bc you only have one vet on staff is like some idiotic exercise in futility. Idk who the smooth brain is that runs this sorry excuse for a veterinary office but it’s a miracle you’ve survived this long when you make asinine decisions like having an “emergency” clinic close for 10 hours on a Friday.Anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and take the trip out to Chicago or Madison if you need an emergency vet. It’s inconvenient but it’s better than having these useless clowns steal your money for inadequate care.
Came in about a month ago after my dog tore her leg and severed her femoral artery on a post in the yard. She had already lost more than half her blood by the time we got her in. The staff reacted super fast and got a blood donor and surgeon in to close up the artery. They were very upfront with the potential costs (the final bill actually came in a little lower than expected and overall I’d say was very reasonable considering the condition my dog was in and her critical status overnight). Once she was stable enough we were allowed in the back to spend time with her and they answered all of our questions. I called a little after we got home to check in and again they were super friendly, helpful and honest about her status. Given the extent of her injuries, we are extremely lucky she survived and it’s entirely thanks to the team here! Four weeks later, she’s pretty much running around the house like it never happened. I would recommend this place to anyone and wouldn’t hesitate to use their services again if the need arises.
A few weeks ago my nine year old Maltese became very ill. Testing showed she had fluid in her chest cavity, had lost blood protein, and needed to spend the night on an IV. Dr. Yokum was wonderful. I asked her to make the choices she would make if it were her own dog. She asked me if Maddy was a fighter, told me what to expect, and then she proceeded. By Monday morning, my dogs regular vet recommended she be transferred to a specialty animal clinic in Buffalo Grove. She spent two more days there. She is making a slow recovery, and were it not for Dr. Yokum, she would not have made it through that first night. Thank you Dr. Yokum.
They helped save my Chihuahua when he was in critical condition. They were all very attentive to his care and didnt mind when I called a little too often to check up on him. When we got him back he was a little shaken but I can tell by his demeanor he was very well taken care of and had a lot of attention paid to him. The treatment was pricey but emergency animal treatment is pricey by nature. Blame the industry, not the hospital. 5 Stars.
I had a 3am trip to this clinic with anticipation to have to put my cat to sleep. After them conducting an end-of-life evaluation, another option was presented to me. I immediately took it and am so happy to report that Henry the Half Tail Cat is alive and doing very well three weeks later!!! In sharing the life-saving option Dr. Thrall was extremely compassionate, upfront with unintended risks, and the cost. The entire staff I encountered were professional, kind, efficient, and loving. Thank you, Dr. Thrall for your expertise and compassion!
I had to take my pup in for a hives and abnormal breathing. (Turned out to be some sort of bug/insect bite that caused it!) When I called I was given a few different causes from the symptoms and I mentioned I wanted to bring her in. I see everyone posting about the deposit for the initial exam but this IS emergency care. I am beyond thankful to the entire staff for listening attentively to my worries and not dismissing any concerns. The price was BEYOND reasonable seeing as she had full work up done to find out what was wrong with her. I would’ve paid 3 or 4 times the amount charged If needed just to get her the best care and this was it. The doctor spent nearly 10 minutes on the phone with me giving me different options and listening to my scattered mention of symptoms from days prior as I remembered them. He was very calm and reassuring and that is what I needed to hear that my Ries was in the best hands possible. The wait in the car before dropping her off did take about 30 minutes- maybe in a more severe life threatening situation i would have been freaking out as every minute counts and I drove 20 minutes in to town, however maybe in a different scenario she would have been admitted immediately and stabilized until the doctor could see her.Thank you to all of you for keeping my Ries safe and making her a healthy happy pup again! 5/5 stars!!
I recently had a chocolate incident with my golden retriever, and reached out to the emergency clinic in a panic. The woman I spoke with was so calm and kind to me and gave me specific instructions on how I could help my dog. She encouraged me to call back with any other concerns, which I ended up doing a little bit later that night, and she was still so sweet and helpful. I’m so incredibly thankful for her help and her patience because she most likely saved my dog’s life.
Very expensive but saved my dog who was undiagnosed with diabetes and crashed on us. We did have a stressful day when we picked her up though. For some reason they discharge animals Saturday mornings or maybe in our case it was due to the holiday. Either way we had steal our regular vet from his holiday to continue IV treatments. That said, she looked like she wasnt going to make it and they got her stable. So very grateful for the care given. Kind of had to take a self taught class on diabetes treatment, but Lilly is back to healthy and happy.
So disappointed in this emergency care facility. We had used this vet Er previously and been happy with their care, but last night during a critical emergency situation, they really let us down. I ended up losing a $2000 puppy because they would not accept us, siting short staffing as why they turned us away. If you can’t trust a 24 hour emergency vet service to help you in an after hours situation, then what good are they? Don’t trust the lives of your beloved fur babies to them.
This is a great clinic. They saved my dog’s life one night around 11 pm and respected my opinion on what my dog needed as the owner (I felt an overnight stay would be too stressful for her). They gave her fluids and I brought her back a few times for more fluids and monitoring. Then again a few months later she scratched her eye. They didn’t seem too overloaded today so the vet gave her a full exam and we talked about her overall health as well as how to treat t he eye. It was a fairly quick visit and I really appreciate having an emergency clinic that I can trust. PS. To my fellow owners please be patient with staff when they are overloaded. There is a nationwide shortage in the vet field and they are doing the best they can.
Their services are highly priced at an emergency clinic rate, but the clinic hardly operates as one. If you have an emergency you must wait until 10 am to start the process of being seen. I asked if there were any other clinics that could see us any sooner and they said they are the only emergency vet clinic in the area. During the check-in process I was told that payment is due at time of service and they do not offer any payment plans. I knew that it was expensive, but for the sake of my pet I decided to proceed. I was then told that I would be unable to be with my dog during the visit. I asked if there was any way I could be with her, they said no. I asked if there was any other clinic that would allow me to be with her. They told me I was free to call around but the nearest emergency clinic was in the Chicago area. Knowing I had no other option I decided to just go through with their services. So they will not let you in to be with your pet, even though the covid mandate has been lifted. I don’t believe has anything to do with the virus. I just think they would rather shuttle the animal in and out, without any regard for the emotional well-being of the owner/animal. In addition, they charge an emergency rate without the urgency of an emergency clinic. They have no intention of improving the quality of their care because they are the only emergency vet clinic in the area, so they don’t have to. Overall, the only reason I am rating this establishment so generously is because the veterinarian was good. I just wish the customer service and establishment quality was better.
Brought my cat in for new-onset seizures knowing that this might be the end of the road for her. Her vet was so caring and thorough. After discussing the options and thinking through what she would want, we made the tough decision to euthanize her so she could go in peace and with us there. Nothing makes losing your pet easy but knowing that we made the right decision and being able to take her in quickly so she wouldnt suffer anymore helps. Staff was compassionate with her and Im so grateful that this clinic was open so that she didnt have to suffer for weeks waiting for a vet appointment with her regular vet. Thank you for what you do, I know it isnt easy.
Try to go to your normal vet if possible you will pay a lot to come here. They should tell you how much your invoice will be at the time they tell you their treatment plan , I took my cat in they told me over the phone their plan yes I did agree but $1500 seems a lot for what they did avoid if possible or ask the total cost before agreeing to the treatment.
Worst experience I’ve ever had. My dog wasn’t feeling well and i called this emergency vet to bring my dog in. They said they were at capacity so i had to call around to different vets and got denied by 3 until a vet in Madison said they were willing to take her in. Before i left my house my dog went into shock and stopped breathing. I tried giving my dog cpr and it started to work and i called this vet again and told them my dog was on the verge of death and the first thing they asked was if i wanted to cremate her. I tried explaining what was going on again to the vet and the lady on the phone laughed and said she didn’t know what i was expecting her to do. I called asking for guidance on how i could help save her and told them it was a serious emergency and if i could bring my dog in and they didn’t take it seriously. Finally they said i could bring her but went on and on talking about the cost and money. I told them the money didn’t matter to me but she would not stop talking about cost. I then hung the phone up and continued to try to save my dog but it was no good she passed away. And then the worst part is i called them back and when they answered i had said that my dog died and they rudely hung the phone up on me.
My 2 dogs decided to fight over a treat. One of them had an open wound so I was calling around my area to take her in the ER. I called aurora but they were at capacity. They recommended us to take her to rockford where there was not a huge wait. We called and they took our information down. It was a 45 minute drive for us but well worth it for my baby. They lady that took libby in was so nice, it made me feel that she was in good hands. She ended up needing surgery. The first couple days were rough but now she is slowly recovering. Thank you staff for taking my Libby in and helping her recover from this traumatic experience.
THANK YOU GUYS ! YOU SAVED MY DOG! ❤️ I WOULD recommend this place hands down. My senior dog Reese got attacked on a late Saturday night by another dog, his ear was ripped very bad, he was in shock, and he had a few other bites that were pretty bad. My husband called them for me because I was a mess. They treated him very nice and told us to come in. Upon arriving I called and they were outside in seconds to grab him. We waited about an hour and a half and they called us and updated us on what needed to be done, they warned me of his age and the risks of surgery and I was kind of annoying probably repeating myself (I was scared and nervous that’s my baby) but they treated me with respect and didn’t give me a attitude or nothing. I’m being honest because I just had to let everyone know my experience with this place. He ended up staying 2 nights and 3 days here, they took great care of him and he is doing better now. They do ask for a deposit which is reasonable, now if you areLimited with funds I would be direct with them because they do offer Care Credit (usually easy to get approved) but just be direct with how much you want to spend and they will give you the best options. I will definitely be returning here if we ever need them in the future because they went above and beyond for my old baby Reese. Seriously thank you guys very much and being very reasonable with us. ❤️🥲
I was so scared when my dog started bleeding from her nose at 6am. I dont even know how I woke up - I NEVER wake up that early. Rushed her to this clinic, they saw her right away, treated her to stop the bleeding, sent me home with meds that I was told (given potential complications) to NOT use unless absolutely necessary. Never had to use it.The doctor who treated her was AMAZINGLY thorough - more thorough than my regular vet. Which showed me I needed to change vets. He also referred us to the University of Wisconsin - long story short (I know, too late for that) - she is still alive at 13 years old. I love these people.
I called was on the phone on hold all the way from Janesville to Beloit the girl finally gets on the phone puts me immediately on hold again then I explained to her our dog might have distemper and I explained our veterinarian asked us to get it immediately to a hospital and she took down all of our information then tells us theyre too busy and take it to a different hospital.
I had to bring my sweet old boy here at 7am because he wasnt going to make it to his scheduled 5pm euthanasia appointment with his usual vet. I had never been to this clinic before. The two vet techs and the vet herself were so kind and empathetic – I was clearly a mess and so was he. Appreciative of how everything went for this unfortunate time. Thank you.Side note: The cost for everything was incredibly affordable and absolutely worth bringing him here instead of letting him suffer and die naturally to save a few bucks.
Vet was kind and knowledgeable but communication and time were not very well managed. Dropped my kitty off at 9am, didn’t hear from them for two hours; they called around 11 to get basic information and get permission to run tests; they called again at noon to get permission to do a simple procedure; and then I did not hear from them until I called them hours later and was told they were running one last quick test after the procedure, which had ended an hour before the call. I then had to call around 4 in order to pick my cat up by 5, when I had to work. The procedure was successful and staff was friendly, but I’m not sure why what seemed like a fairly simple procedure took from 9am to 5pm, and I wish I did not have to call to get her by then at the earliest. Thank you to the helpful staff!
If you have the option to go anywhere but here please take it . I have never been to such an unprofessional, un empathetic.. place ever . The Emotional pain I went though when I took my cat to be put down was disgusting. They don’t communicate with each other and. Given that waiting is now In the car I didn’t hear back for over an hour when they said they were going to start sedation … then when I called to check in they said he’s being difficult and they haven’t been able to sedate him that if they can just put him down with out me having to come in to say my goodbyes anymore . I told them to bring him back out to me . And then they said oh he calmed down we sedated him !!! Are you kidding me ? I still took my baby back and waited till the morning to call another place 🥺💔
Had to bring my cat because she was having uncontrollable seizures and the staff was super supportive and gave us all our options. They helped us find out the root cause. As one of the only vet clinics open at night or on holidays, we had to take my 16 year old dog in to be euthanized on a holiday. The staff was so understanding of our heartbreak. The staff is amazing and if you need their services they are always open!
Took my dog A German Shepherd golden retriever mix in when it jammed a stick in the back of his throat. They sedated him and looked at his throat said the hole was only 3/8 deep they would let it heal gave him medicine. Two months later he still not getting better, breath smelled like gangrene, took him to my vet they sedated him took the x-ray and a 3 inch stick was still jammed in his throat. The skin was starting to heal around the stick. Would not advise to go there. They should have seen the stick with an x-ray the first night.
I was super anxious and worried going in, partly because I had read some terrifying thing online about the potential outcomes for what I was seeing from my cat, and partly from some of the reviews I had read on here about pricing and some of the horror stories a few people had shared. But with no other clinic options open for the next 40ish hours, I needed to take my boy. And I can say with full honesty that Dr. Schecker gave me the most comprehensible care and explanation that Ive ever gotten from a vet. I love my local vet very much, but the Dr gave me a full explanation of the situation and its causes, symptoms to look out for in the near and distant future, and various lifestyle changes to make sure Im giving my pets the best care. I felt like a parent with their childs doctor, and Im forever grateful that even before he was discharged she called to update me on how he was and easy my fears. The bill was fair too. Im very glad I wentP.s. my boy was given a few meds to take home, and in less than 6 hours he was acting his old self again!
My dog was breathing strange (like fluid was in her lungs) and heavily panting when I picked her up, so I asked the kennel assistant about it and she said she knew nothing and offered no way of finding out from someone who could know. She really just brushed me off so I left. My dog died less than 2 hours later, unable to breathe, and convulsing. Her lungs and heart were not her reason for visit so it was all very odd.We are mourning a huge loss in our family and even when we called to tell them they dismissed us and you could tell they wanted to just get us off the phone. Just don’t go here if you love your animal.
April 20, 2021 my sister noticed her Chihuahua was seizing and in pain. She called this Emergency Clinic to take her dog as it is the only Emergency Animal Clinic in Rockford, Illinois. She was told she could not bring her dog because they were full. After making numerous calls to Dundee, Buffalo Grove, St. Charles, Freeport(none of which were open), I encouraged her to call this clinic again, as I did as well. My sister and I begged this clinic up to nearly 6am to see my sisters dog...after crying we thought he was near death without medical intervention... Even if the doctor would just come outside...as her Chihuahua cried a cry Ive never heard a dog make. Around 7:15am my sister and I prepared to take him anywhere to get him help. Upon returning to get him after starting car, she found him dead. An eight year old, very healthy Chihuahua, loved by his immediate and extended family because he was a litle riot, died. He may have died anyway, but at least he would have been given life saving measures. I will never forget that this supposed emergency clinic refused to see a little 8 pound Chihuahua for over six hours despite they are an emergency clinic... Shame on this staff! The clinic manager has NOT returned any calls to my sister or I despite their response that they did. NO OTHER CLINIC WAS OPEN...THEY WERE TOLD NUMEROUS TIMES THE REFERRALS WERE NOT OPEN. By drive a little further, this clinic means the Quad Cities at 2am. You are an emergency clinic. I know not every, if any of the dogs in your care at the time, were facing a life & death medical situation. For over 6 hours this clinic refused to see my sisters dog... Once again.... Shame on you!
Had an emergency at 2am with my dachshund, Milo.. Everyone was so friendly, made sure they communicated the entire time despite the fact that I couldn’t go inside with my pupper, & made me feel super comfortable leaving him with them. They’re all super nice people & made sure my baby was safe and improving before releasing him. Beyond happy with my experience here.
We took our 14 year old kitty in on Saturday night as her health began to decline. Her regular vets office was closed and we had never visited AEC previously. Through our entire interaction the staff was patient and empathetic. Dr Wilbur was our attending veterinarian. He answered all of our questions professionally and never rushed us as we came to the difficult decision to put our baby to sleep (there was no alternative). We were informed of everything throughout the process and made to feel cared for by the staff. Thank you for providing us with closure by allowing us to be with our kitty during her final moments. I cannot imagine the difficulty of your jobs. Working in an emergency clinic you deal with pets that are in a such dire places. Dr Wilbur, even though we were grieving, you shepherded us through this end of life event with compassion. Thank you!!!!!! Stay safe and know that your kindness is very much appreciated.
Do not hesitate to take your animals here.Im going to be honest, when I saw the reviews, I was seriously second guessing taking my cat here for emergency treatment when our vet recommended it. Once he actually started the treatment process, all of our fears were relieved immediately. Everyone we dealt with was very kind, even when we called multiple times trying to figure out payment logistics on our end. The prices are fair. This is not a normal vet, just like the ER for humans costs more. Its maybe 2-3x the price. We were told we could call and check on our cat as many times and at any time that we needed. We did call late at night and very early in the morning and were treated wonderfully each and every time (no sense of being rushed or annoyance from them even though I know they are all very busy). Everyone we spoke to treated us extremely well and explained the treatment process thoroughly. The estimate was right on. Thank you so much for saving our cat.
Ive had 3 past experiences with this place and all were terrible in one way or another. My first experience was bad based on pricing because they charged an extra 100$ just to call poison control to see if a certain flower was poisonous to cats. This was years ago but they are vets any they should know. It ended in if I remember right an 800$ bill. My second experience was with a hamster. My hamster was moving rapid like twitching and I thought it was suffering. I get there and they charged 85$ just to tell me my hamster has actually been dead and its a natural response to twitch after. They did zero treatment on it and I took the body home and it was still 85$ to tell me it was dead. The last experience was with a dog that had a blockage from eating fabric. This was a few years ago but most recent. They kept being told that the dog was suffering and to help it please literally begging the staff and being given an exam room, they let the dog wait and wait in the exam room until it actually ruptured internally and died a horrific death on their floor. It was so horrific I cant get into details. If you have no where else to go go here but be aware.
This is the second time we had to put down a cat. The first time was about 8 or 9 years ago and the second time was last night. We live about an hour away from Rockford and tried taking our 15 year old cat, Milo to emergency hospitals in our area, but they were way too expensive. We knew that we had to put him down. We decided to drive the hour to Rockford, because we knew that he would be taken care of and we would be treated with care. The staff was amazing! Just like the first time, we felt welcomed and you can definitely feel the sympathy and empathy. They understand how difficult it is to let go of a furry baby. We highly recommend them! We have two other pets and will not hesitate to drive the hour. We will never go anywhere else.Thank you so much for your tender care during this difficult time.
Brought my 14 year old cat here today unexpectedly due to a swollen eye and foaming at the mouth. Couldnt get into our normal vet so this was the only option. I can say that my personal experience was AMAZING contrary to some other bad reviews. I was so scared to give my girl to a vet neither of us know and since we are living in a pandemic, you are not allowed to go inside. Vet techs were very sweet and understanding as I handed off my cat while crying. The vet who examined my pet and called me to talk was VERY thorough with her questions and took her time with me on the phone and wasnt rushed at all. They took very good care of my cat and I am glad I now know that I can trust this Animal Emergency Clinic for the future with future animals for Emergencies. Thank you for making our visit as comfortable as could be!
Took my dog here a few months ago after he ran into the corner of a garden box and sliced his leg/chest up pretty bad. They had us sit in the car for 25 minutes waiting for them to come out to get him (due to covid) while he’s bleeding, shaking and in pain. When she came out to get him I had to tell her to pick him because she was going to try to make him walk in. $800 later and a few stitches we go to pick him up. They had him shaved and stitched but literally blood still all over him. You couldn’t clean up the area at all while he was sedated?? We get him home and the next day it just didn’t look right. Brought him to our vet and they ended up adding more stitches and a total of 18 staples. 18!!!!! I will never bring him back here.
Naturally my primary vet was no where to be found when my dog Diesel had a medical emergency. This clinic stepped up to the plate and gave him the attention he needed when no one else would. Now he is home and on the road to recovery. If I were wealthy Id give them a grant for a pet friendly CT/MRI so they could help more, but Im a broke b so the best I can do is pay my bill and write this review. Thanks again!
Had to take my pitbull Luna here after she had she had chewed of bandaging covering an infected area on her tail. Her normal vet had mentioned amputating her tail, but wanted to wait and re-evaluate after a few days. Once the staff here looked her over, Dr. Thrall was very kind and honest with me and explained that amputation was the best option for her. He kept me informed during the night and the staff was very friendly and caring. Instead if letting my Luna suffer, they helped her and she is resting comfortably at home and just a little more than 24 hours later, she is happy, eating like normal and wagging her new little stump at us.
The staff were unbelievable in a time where myself and my husband were beside ourselves with concern and in the end grief. I cant say enough about the expertise and education that was given to us about our poor Roosevelts prognosis. We appreciate everything you did for us, and for our little man. We are eternally grateful for the compassionate care that Roosevelt was provided, and that we were able to be with him when we said our final goodbye despite COVID. Thank you again ❤️
Its not fun to have an emergency. It feels so good to know your pet is in good hands though. My first impression started with a calm and supportive phone conversation. They were waiting for me upon arrival. Great care, a thorough exam, and answers were all given to me asap. I had to leave my baby there and that would have been harder if I didnt see all the love and compassion this place has for animals. Im so grateful. Unfortunately I was in and out the entire Memorial Day weekend. My dog had a blood transfusion and without this place being open when everyone else was closed I dont know what I would have done. Thank you- I highly recommend this clinic.
I called this morning 7/8/20 around 3:30am and the receptionist was very short with me and wasnt helpful when I was telling her my concerns about my new puppy. She told me to call my regular vet when they opened later today. My puppy had bloody diarrhea and was throwing up. This is something very concerning and something pet owners are told to watch out for when they have a 10 week old puppy. We were actually told to get her in immediately if any of these things were to happen with our puppy as it could be life threatening. Ended up at UW of Madison where indeed my puppy was very sick. The only reason Im not giving a 1 star review is because in general this place is very helpful and has helped another dog of mine in the past. But the receptionist I had this morning could careless I had a sick dog, wouldnt even hear me out or talk to a vet about my concerns. I shouldnt have had to drive 2 hours for help when this place is right down the road from me. Im disappointed by the treatment I received when I called worried about my baby.
If you are thinking of going here ignore any negative reviews. We received tge absolute best service a pet owner could ask for. Our bird got his foot shut in the frdge door and was bleeding pretty bad. Turned out to be an artery that was injured. Because the birds feet are so tiny as you can imagine it makes it very difficult to repair. Dr kevin tried every which way possible to close it up and stop the bleeding but ultimately after exhausting every option he sat down witg him rubbed his head while compressing his wound until finally after 30 minutes it stopped bleeding. And let me tell you this place was busy. The parking lot was full of people at 1130 at night!, i feel like most vets would not have put that much effort into saving a bird. After all was said and done the dr thoroughly explained our birds injuries and his treatmemt and kept up updated throughout the night before pickinh him back up. We were told that because of tge location of the wound and the fact that birds pick thatbit was going to be a slow recovery because the wound would more than likely open up. He gave us ideas on how to set up his cage and im so happy ro say its been maybe 4 days and its healing perfectly. Has not opened up once and kiwi is back to his normal spunky self. Hes still in pain at times but hes doing great. I do not beleive you will get this level of care anywhere else. And hnestly tge price wasnt bad. About $250 for the late night emergency visit, anestesia, and meds given to him thatere as well as meds sent home. Considering tge amouny of time spent fixing this 🐦, i think we got off pretty cheap!!! I cant speak to other drs but dr kevin was awesome. Wish he could be our everyday vet.
I cannot say enough positive things about the clinic. We took our dog, Otis, twice for seizures. Each time we were treated with the utmost care and attention. I could call as often as I needed to in order to check on his condition day or night. Sadly last night we took him to be put to sleep and again Dr. Thrall was kind and he explained everything to us. We were allowed to be with Otis as long as we needed to be. I knew he was taken good care of as were we. Thank Dr. Thrall.
My dog had an intestinal blockage and she had emergency surgery at our regular vet, which closes at 6pm. I was able to take her to AME so she could be taken care of over night and have IV fluids. I was so worried about leaving her and not knowing what was going on. They filled me in on everything before I left, let me spend some time with her in back before I left, and gave me complete updates when I picked her up in the morning. I brought her back to my regular vet in the morning and was able to take her home that evening. I had some concerns after our regular vet closed, so I was able to call AME with any questions I had and they were so helpful. I am so thankful for their hours and their staff!!! My dog is home and healing well. They charged me about $300 for an overnight stay with IV fluids, which seems reasonable to me. She was in good hands and thats all I could have asked for.
This place is an amazing facility to take your pets for emergency care or if they are sick and you have to put them down. The is staff are caring and compassionate and knowledgeable. When you bring your pet in to be put down for some reason, they bring you into a private room for as long as you want to be with your pet. Then they take the pet to get the the injection and they bring the pet back to you to hold for as long as you want and are sensitive to your emotions. When you are ready to take your pet home they give you a clay paw print to take home with you. We had a 20 year old cat and a 15 year old cat put down here. There was no feeling of being rushed but only professional, compassionate care. For the past 15 years I have recommended this excellent facility to anyone in need. Tonight I had to bring my 6 month old puppy for an injury. I was confident she would be in good hands and was grateful they are available when my vet was closed. I’m also giving a shout out to my new vet which is ANIMAL MEDICAL CLINIC on 4113 MORSAY DRIVE, ROCKFORD, IL 61107.
Over the weekend I was helping my mother get her medication and one of her pills fell on the floor, before I could grab the pill our puppy hurried up and got it in his mouth, I opened his mouth and didn’t see the pill..I became frantic, called animal poison control and got a case number and rushed our 6 month old puppy to the emergency vet, later on I found the pill stuck to my pants but it definitely had been chewed on...They did a wonderful job with our puppy! They got him in ASAP and started treatment as he definitely was having a reaction to the medication from chewing on it..They kept him for 24 hours and made sure he was ok..We are so thankful to Dr. Yokum and the staff, they were so kind and understanding
Pls don’t come here. Instead take your furr baby to veterinary specialty center in Buffalo grove or somewhere in the Elgin area. The drive isn’t too bad and ur pet will live. They call you before ANYTHING is done to consult with you and give you options with what route you want to take with your pet. They treat ur pet with care and will even give your pup an area where they can stay if you absolutely have to leave them there until after work. Pls take the drive
My mom took their german shepard for emergency but they said they were full, so my mom asked what we can do she said to take it to emergency in auorora illinois , thats crazy all they way from rockford illinois to aurora illinois in 2 am in the morning. This place is garbage they only take care of your animal when they feel like it. Again my mom asked anyway doctor can see the dog? She said no. Ruth people . They need proper training in customer service. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone..
DO NOT GO HERE!! they make you feel like your pet is NOTHING. Tried to take my dog here because she was throwing up chronically and crying so obviously she’s in a world of pain...they told me that her situation is not urgent and that they would call me at 10 I just hung up.. Auburn st vet is way more understanding and they work with you they took my baby right away thank god they did because it was a serious issue!
My daughter took her dog in because she wasn’t feeling good, was charged $92 just to walk in the door. Finally took an X-ray and that was an extra $150 but they couldn’t tell what was causing her to not eat. The vet decided to perform surgery meanwhile they weren’t keeping my daughter updated on anything really, after surgery they kept giving my daughter the run around and kept adding stuff to the bill and my daughter told them she doesn’t have the money for all of the stuff they did but they kept adding charges. So now the bill is around $3000 and now the vet wants my daughter to move her dog to another vet. Outrageous!! Not professional at all and a bunch of money hungry jerks!! Won’t ever be back.
My 7 month old golden retriever ate a container of juicy fruit. Which contains Xylitol (very toxic in dogs) We didnt know this. He vomited and started seizing really bad. We thought for sure he was dead. I rushed him to them and they took him right in and started treating him. After a couple days stay at their hospital and a few blood rechecks we are very happy to say River SURVIVED! They saved his life! And were eternally grateful! The staff is amazing and very kind. If youre ever in a situation where your pet needs immediate car this is definitely the place to go.
Our dog experienced a trauma hunting and this place diagnoses her with a cancer?!?! They told us we needed to put her down. Luckily we knew it didn’t sound correct so we took her to UW and she had emergency surgery and has made a full recovery! I will never return here and drive the hour to Madison every time!!!
We had to put our 17 year old baby to sleep today. No one else would take us in. The people here were very understanding and tried their best to accommodate us. The sweet older woman was extremely compassionate. We were lucky to have her be the one to admister the euthanasia. They also costed less than it wouldve at my vet. And my vet wouldve kicked us out as soon as possible. The clinic here gave us time to grieve.
I took my cat in thinking the following day he wasn’t going to pull through of his diagnosis of acute kidney failure and these amazing and wonderful people treated him with the best care and his kidney levels came back to normal. they also recommended a surgeon nearby for a life saving surgery for my baby and I heard back today that the surgery went well. I am soooo thankful for the staff here🖤
We took our Great Dane to them on a Sunday because she got sick. When we got there the staff was very good and attentive. After they examined her they informed us she had gotten bloat and would require surgery. They told us the low end would be 1500 and the high end would be 2500. The Dr. did the estimate and it came back at 2500 to 3500 which we were obviously shocked about. They explained half had to be paid that day and the rest when we picked her up two days later or we would have to euthanize her. We had the first half that day but they would not work with us on the remaining so we had to put our beautiful baby down. She was a perfectly healthy 5 year old and we had to put her to sleep because they care more about money than they do your pets and their families. I truly hope no one else has to make this decision like we did. It is sad that they can will not work with families in this situation instead of giving us a payment option, we lost a member of our family. Our home is missing a very large piece. We love you and miss you Dottie Mae.
Brought my older dog in at 2am when she got hit by a car. They were quick, and when the Dr came out she was up front about what they wanted to do, put a plan together, and gave us a high end and low end of price to do the diagnostic to see what was wrong with her. The technician came out with the pricing, we paid the low end, and went home. They were running tests and planned to keep her overnight anyways. They told me to call when I got home to find out the results of the blood work and x-rays. When I called I was told her injuries, and the doctor and I discussed what surgeries she would require, and decided that at her age, it would be best to put her to sleep. I asked if I could get a few hours of sleep and then come back to be there when she was put to sleep. They accommodated, and let me be there. I paid the remainder of what was owed, they gave me a clay paw print, and they called me when her ashes were ready. They also sent my family a card in the mail with condolences for losing our family member. This is an EMERGENCY clinic. The same as when you go to the EMERGENCY ROOM, their prices are going to be a bit higher than you standard clinic that closes at 6pm. I was thankful that there was somewhere open at 2am to take my girl. So thankful for the option they offer for emergency care, and for the care they took in my girls final hours.
Sadly we had to bring our sweet, 10 year old Siberian husky in. She had declining health for a while. Today, she couldnt walk, wouldnt eat, wouldnt drink. I knew it was time but I was hoping I was wrong. I have never wanted to be so wrong in my life. The receptionists, doctors and techs were so sweet and understanding when I was trying to explain to my adult kids who were there. This just happened tonight, so Im still processing it. I want to thank the staff for allowing my kids and I to be with Luna during this despite Covid-19 concerns.thank you for your caring and compassion. I will never forget my Luna.
We brought our guinea pig in, knowing he wasnt going to make it much longer, to put him to sleep. The staff told me the costs up front. When we arrived, I filled out my paperwork and as I was handing him over, we realized he had already passed. The nurse took him back to check for a heartbeat and the vet came back out shortly after, letting my daughter know he had passed. They did a paw print for her and refused payment. For being such a difficult time for my daughter, I couldnt be more thankful for the staffs compassionate care.
My dog had signs of an intestinal blockage after eating part of a sock, and it unfortunately happened over the weekend. They wanted to monitor her and hook her up to fluids as she was dehydrated. They took some X-rays as well. The next day the doctor recommended we go ahead with surgery since she hadn’t pooped. Well, it wasn’t until after the surgery she calls to say just before they pet her under anesthesia she passed 8 inches of fecal matter with the sock! But they didn’t call. They didn’t stop the surgery. They went ahead anyway unnecessarily opening my dog up to infection and further complications. If I knew she had finally pooped I would have picked her up right away! It was the most unprofessional treatment I have ever had happen. They charged us well over $1500 dollars for a surgery where they found nothing (of course you watched her poop it all out). I will never forgive this vet. I am honestly thinking about getting out my records and making a formal complaint and potentially contacting the Better Bussiness Bureau. This was beyond unethical and disgusting to continue with surgery.
I had the unfortunate experience of needing to take my dog to the ER at 3am this morning. This is the closest open animal ER to Janesville, WI. Debby and Cindy (hope I’m spelling their names right) were absolutely wonderful and so compassionate. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to come home with Charlie as it was his time to join the rainbow bridge. But having those two women help me through a painful and traumatic experience, I am forever grateful.
Dont listen to any other reviews, i advise not going here! they care more about money than saving your pet! 1 emergency visit will have you spending $1,000 ! also they wont save your pet. mine died because they wouldnt treat him because i didnt have $4,000 to give them right then & there. please do not go here!
In the middle of the night when your pet is in trouble, this place is literally a life saver. Dr. Yocum has been amazing. Shes smart, kind, compassionate and works hard to help her pets. Staff was helpful as well and receptionist was kind. They let me go in the back and see him one more time before leaving him for the night. They even accommodated my call thru out the night and gave me status updates on his condition. Thanks to this team - my dog is home sleeping on the couch with me tonight. The negative reviews about this business only caring about the money is ridiculous. Of course they need to be paid - its a business, not a charity. Also - before any care is given, they give you a printed estimate of the cost of the treatment plan, which you sign. You know how much its going to cost before its done - If you cant incur that cost, you have a chance to speak up.Ive had multiple visits where my pet has had to spend the day hospitalized at my regular vet, then transferred to this vet to spend the night. The costs are comparable.Pets are expensive - I budget for it by having a small part of my paycheck go into a rainy day fund just for these things, and it works. Sorry to preach, but its irritating that reviewers are leaving negative reviews on a business that has saved my pets life - just because they have to pay for the services they requested. You wouldnt leave negative reviews when your hair stylist charges you for those highlights you asked for - this is the same.
Absolutely amazing! Had to take my cat here last night and they guided me through the whole thing! It was my first pet emergency and I was very nervous but they were very reassuring. The whole thing took less than two hours. I had called ahead and all the paperwork was essentially done when I got there 10 minutes later and she was seen by a nurse immediately. The staff was incredibly professional and gave me a detailed discharge summary so I knew EXACTLY what was done and what still needed to be done. Hope I never have to come again, but I definitely trust and recommend them!
Our dog was not doing so well after he was attacked by a pit bull. Took him here because he wasn’t eating and was super weak. They were available at 3am, that was cool. They were super nice but I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who is middle class. Seemed like they were all about money, paid almost $500 for one visit. Also, I was recommended to get X-rays and was charged for X-rays to be told by the vet she couldn’t see anything. Overall though, they were there for us and the vet was super nice and understanding. They took good care of Nova.
My husband and I want to say a huge thank you to Drs Cohen and Yocum. We brought our 13 year old dog, Chloe, there due a bowel obstruction. Dr Yocum came in ON HER NIGHT OFF to do the surgery. The surgery was a success and we are in the process of recovering right now. Do not hesitate to bring your pet to this clinic.
I cant believe the audacity of these bad reviews. Before bringing an animal Ive always called and asked about pricing which seems fair to considering the quality and convenience of service. We had our 1 year old cat Ashes fixed at a different vet, after she had a bad case of pyrometra. She stopped eating and I ended up bottle feeding her. Well her condition worsened and was afraid Id have to put her down. The dude on the phone was very upfront with the pricing and our invoice matched the estimate. What gave us closure is that the lady told us she had feline hemotropic mycoplasma. The OTHER vet didnt find it. My cat died in my arms, the compassion my pregnant fiance and I were shown was truly wonderfulWe ended up adopting an 8 year boy cat the next day out of grief.TL:DR you get what you pay for and would recommend this place to those who are serious about their animals.
The care, compassion and professionalism that were displayed when we were there for my German Shepherd late Saturday night was outstanding. They were awaiting our arrival due to my on call vet communicating with them beforehand as a wonderful woman by the name of Anne called me and told me what to expect when we arrived. Dr. Yocum did everything she could for my big boy Sam. But ultimately with what he already had stacked agains him health wise, it was in his best interest that we say goodbye. It was a heart wrenching decision to make but we know he’s in a better place. From the beginning to the end of our visit there, we were blown away by the wonderful service we were given. To all staff there, thank you!
If I could give 0, I would. No compassion whatsoever from any of the staff. Several people came in with animals in the time we were there, but left with empty carriers; meanwhile the staff was loudly joking and laughing, giving absolutely no regard to the situation these people were in.They could not answer any questions when we brought our 5 year old cat in on the weekend. He had started breathing very heavily overnight, and after visiting our regular vet, we discovered that he had congestive heart failure, which had gone undetected for quite a while. Our regular vet sent us over to this facility with copies of his record, including that days chest X-rays, showing that he had fluid in his chest cavity, and some lung consolidation. We end up being there for about 6 hours and they STILL couldnt give us any answers to simple questions, such as, so what are our options moving forward? is this a condition that can be stabilized and managed? or is this an inherited condition (as we have his litter mate)? They basically told us we could leave him there in an oxygen chamber over the weekend (which would have done absolutely nothing for his actual condition) or put him down, putting extra stress on the latter. After evaluating how poorly they addressed our concerns and fairly basic questions, we asked what other options there were, and they mentioned UW Vet Hospital in Madison (the ONLY good information they provided). Before we left, they tapped his chest to try to relieve some of the pressure on his lungs to make the ride easier. They barely got anything out of him, blaming the fact that they couldnt get him sedated enough. After paying about $300 (not horrible pricing, but well never get valuable time back), we left and brought him to UW in Madison. Within a half hour of arriving, they removed 220 mL (almost a cup) of fluid from his chest without any problems, and answered all of our questions in great detail. They gave us extra time with our boy that this facility could never have offered. We were also assured that had we not wasted so much time sitting in this facility, that our boy would have been able to survive much longer than he did (about a week).I understand that money is a big factor in decision making, and not everyone has the option to go to UW. I am very sorry to those people, truly; letting go of a pet for financial reasons is the hardest thing. However, when I explicitly say to the staff, do whatever it takes financially, Im not leaving here without my cat, you need to have a better bedside manner & knowledge base so that you can actually perform your duties. Stop telling people that they need to put their animal down when its entirely unnecessary. If you can afford the time and money to go to UW Vet Hospital, and theres even a slim chance at getting more time with your pet, please do.
I believe they hurt your animals. After reading the reviews I’m quite sure it’s only money money money took my puppy here cause she was having seizures they let us go see her she was doing perfectly fine no shaking stumbling nothing . So they assured us we most likely can take her home the next day . Then we got a call early the next day saying the dog has no choice but to be put down . We were confused she was FINE SERIOUSLY FINE like nothing happened responded to her name and everything so basically we had to pay for them to kill the dog I feel like . The prices are outrageous paid $500 just for the first day of her being there . I felt we should’ve took her home the same day maybe just maybe she would still be here today
I took my dog in for over night care, while he was there he started having mucous and blood come from his nose. I was not informed of this and they had called me earlier to ask me to drop off my dogs medicine and even then didn’t let me know what was going on. After I picked him up my regular vet informed me that his bleeding was concerning and he may not make it long after. He didn’t. They want your money and they want to fight with you when you call to inquire. I will NEVER visit them again as I’m sure my pets are in better and safer hands making the drive out of town to another clinic
Weve used this facility twice.First time was several years ago...they saved our Std Poodle from bloat, a turned stomach. They allowed us to call in the middle of the night to check on him. Just took our other poodle to them last night for an infected surgery incision. Yes, wait times might be alittle long, but both experiences were very good, staff is professional knowledgeable and compassionate.
I am a breeder of Bearded Collies and on Saturday my 4 1/2 yr old girl was to be delivering puppies the following week - 4 days in the future week. Her water bag broke and all seemed as planned - she had a litter the last time and whelped 9 puppies in 3 hours. No complications. But this time it was different. Desi was in labor and no contractions - 2 1/2 hours after the water bag rupture, she began discharging Dark to Light Green which could be signs of placenta separation. I called my vet in Crystal Lake and was referred to 4 different ER clinics - of which no one had space for us. I called Rockford and ........ Yes, bring her in immediately! We arrived and all details on our girl were given in registration. We were explained the financial obligations and understood them. Our girl was seen within 30 mins and the Dr. told us she wanted to try and get our girl to deliver normally - but it seemed we needed help to get the contractions started. The vet listened to my concerns and how things usually progress with my girls in the whelping program. This is the 1st ER Vet that I have met that did NOT disrespect me as a breeder. We discussed the options and tried the least evasive / dangerous route - Giving Oxycontin to bring about normal contractions. It was now next day - Sunday and no contractions. A second shot was administered and after another hour - Nothing.NOW we discussed the need for the C Section , as it appeared that my Beardie was delivering early which could mean if the lungs are not developed the puppies could die, or If let alone to what comes natural, and wait - the litter could die because 1 pup may have died or the placenta separated and the litter would then all die.Decision - with prayers - C Section. We were told the cost of the surgery - between $1100 and $1700 . Again - we understood the financial obligation - Owning a pet is NOT inexpensive - especially if you CARE about them. with your heart and soul.C-Section and it WAS the right decision - 9 puppies delivered safe and sound. My puppies were all delivered safely and my little momma was safe and sound as well.During this emotional state of myself and my husband.....The compassion of the doctor and her staff was bare none the best I have met. We were not rushed out of the clinic and was encouraged to take our time with momma and the pups in the patient room. Being there for over 6 hours.......COST - $1300. While waiting in recovery - I applied to Care Credit (For Pets) from my phone and got approved with 0 % interest for 18 months.Folks - THE ER services is needing to be paid. Complaining about the price - then buy pet insurance.Love your pet? Well emergencies and Sh*** happens! Be prepared? Not usually are we prepared for emergencies- but if you cant afford a pet - and take care of them with the blessed expert hands of THIS Doctor and the clinic staff - Please get a gold fish.I HAVE dealt with 3 other ER Clinics in my life time - my Beardies are my love and my life first - And I have met some BAD examples of Vets at ER clinics. THIS CLINIC is IMO a clinic that other ER Vet Clinics .... SHOULD Follow as a leading example. of Compassion, and professionalism. The experience of this ER happening to us - was 10 Stars - not 5.THANK YOU Mrs. Dr. Thrall. With all our hearts my husband and I thank you and your staff for working such long hours and handling emergencies on the fly. THANK YOU!Claudia and Joe.
I was blown away by the care, compassion, and professionalism the team demonstrated late Sunday evening when our family had to put to sleep our beloved family dog. Their care that evening was outstanding and the follow-up kind notes of compassion and concern have been way beyond the call of duty. To top things off, their prices were significantly below what we expected. We are so thankful for them.
If it werent for the vet here my dog would have just sat and waited while a cancer spread through his body. She pushed to get him into a specialist ASAP with vet after vet until one finally took her seriously. If it werent for her it would have been too late for my dog by the time a specialist saw him. Thank you!!
Just ok...we had to wait 2 hours in the waiting room. I get it...lots of people/animals waiting to be seen...it is an emergency clinic after all. I just felt like the focus was money over care of the animals. I don’t know how many times money and payment was mentioned to me. My pet had to stay the weekend and be transferred to our regular vet when they opened. When I got to my vet they actually felt bad that I had to take him to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Rockford in the first place. They actually made the comment that they are extremely expensive. I mean, I am thankful because they were able to save my pet...but wow...my son had to go to the emergency room when he was 3 and it didn’t even come close to what I had to pay for my pet.
The staff was nice and attentive to my kitten, until they found out I couldnt pay the entire bill upfront.Definitely out for the money and will hold your pet hostage & keep increasing your bill until you pay the entire amount....no matter how short you are and they will not take a posted dated check for the remainder of what you owe. I have read several posts where the owners couldnt pay the entire amount that day and the clinic euthanized the pet!
Great emergency vet, friendly staff, knowledgeable, and they have a sense of urgency. Do keep in mind - it’s VERY expensive as they are emergency services. They are very up front, borderline cautious, with the cost of service. I hope you never have to rush your pet to the vet, but if the need arises and you can afford it, this is a great clinic.
I had to have my 17 year old Tinkie put to sleep 2/10/19. I called first and they were very helpful and compassionate. When I brought her in they cared for her as if it was their own dog. The doctor was so nice and empathetic to our feelings. I am so grateful that all the personal and doctor were there to help with process during a extremely difficult time.
My dog got a bloody nose and we rushed him in right away. The staff was so helpful and compassionate. They let us spend some alone time with him before leaving him for the night. Everyone there was friendly and answered all my questions. I highly recommend this place for your pets emergency needs!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE...I regret taking my golden retriever. They lack communication, the manager and the doctors are rude except for the receptionists! They care ONLY about your money, the way your pet will be treated and the medicine they will give to him will be based on the money you give them! I didnt know and I was not updated on my dogs condition when he was discharged from the clinic! He was throw in my car and the doctor walked away! We asked her if my dog was sleeping and her response was hes just very sick didnt give me any instructions with my dogs medications just handed it to me and walked away. When he was discharged I was told to take him to Hillcrest and I drove there which was a 3-5 minute drive...My dog PASSED AWAY IN MY CAR.....the doctor didnt tell me he was fighting to breathe...didnt tell me he needed oxygen...they claim to have been monitoring him and checking his breathing but that was a lie...if that was the case they wouldve noticed a change in his breathing. They care only for the money and that is it. The oath that they have on their wall should be taken down! It is full of lies! The manager kept referring to my dog as it which I repeatedly told her not to say it since I take full offense to that and she didnt care and continued to say it Our pets are apart of our family if you really love them PLEASE do not take them here to be taken care of overnight! If I wouldve kept him with me..he wouldve survived...I take blame for taking him to the clinic...thinking they were gonna take care of them better than I was but they didnt.
I had never used this emergency clinic before, but I ended using them twice within a week just recently. The first encounter was for an actual emergency---my cat had an upper respiratory issue and a very high fever. The second was for guidance with end of life choices for my suffering 17 year old cat/best friend when no vet in the greater Rockford area had an appointment opening for days. In both cases, the support staff and vets were so good us. They were absolutely straightforward about costs, options, and clinical impressions. If you seriously need professional veterinary care in the middle of the night or on a weekend when every vet in Winnebago/Boone county is off or on vacation, these are your people.
They were so kind to my cat Goliath. They made him comfortable and even with this whole mess of COVID I was still able to say goodbye to my boy. Such kind people who you can tell care for our fur babies as much as we do. Today I got a condolence letter in the mail from them and each employee signed individually and that’s just above and beyond in my opinion because they didn’t have to do that.Thank you to all the staff!
I am never recommending this place to anyone. We brought our cat in on a Friday. They told us that we needed to keep him there until Sunday but maybe until Monday. Before we left we asked to s? Mn,nzay bye to him and the Vet Tech came in carrying him by his scruff. Anyone working with pets should know that thats not an appropriate way to carry an adult cat that is as large as ours is. Then while he was there I kept calling to check on him and everyone I spoke with said that he is doing okay and that everything is going as planned and he was doing fine. I called Sunday afternoon and was told that they werent even going to remove his catheter until midnight and that they needed to keep him for another night! I was a litte confused because everyone kept saying how good he was doing and of he was doing so well, then why couldnt they have removed the catheter sooner. I called at 6AM on the dot on Monday morning and they said that I needed to pick him up and transfer him to another vet. So now I have no idea what is going on because they gave not told me anything about a transfer, and they kept telling me that he was fine and doing well. Then I pick him up and transfer him to his primary vet and they said that the vet ER said that he is fine and that he can come home and that he didnt need to come in at all! They only wanted our money, thats why he had to stay an additional night. Anyone who works at this place is not in it for the well being of your beloved pet, they are in it for the money. They know that you will pay and do anything you can to make sure that your pet is okay and they take full advantage of that.
Tonight my dog stepped on a nail and I frantically searched for an emergency vet online. I found AEC and I’m very glad I did. I called enroute to their facility and they were upfront about the initial costs and time of payment. I appreciated this (although I would say yes to anything to help my pup). We were seen right away. The entire time I was there the vet techs and doctors were all very helpful, kind, courteous, and very forthcoming with all information. I saw a lot of different animals with their families come in for various issues and they were always treated very kindly. Yes the cost is higher than a normal vet, but remember these are emergency services. And honestly looking at the invoice, the prescription fees are fairly similar to those from a normal appointment. Overall, I was very happy with the service. I highly recommend and will use in the future if ever needed (although I hope I don’t ever need to).
I appreciate the office staff for getting me in at the very last min. before you closed so my dog Alex did not need to suffer all day (he was 21yrs old). They all had so much sympathy for me & Alex.Thank you for all of the care you provided for me & my dog Alex. I want to thank you for being there for me and him when he got to the end of his life. Losing Alex was very hard. It was very sad and I appreciate the time you let me cry in the office. He lived a long life.Thank you for your support during the end of his life the Dr. and staff compassionate and sympathetic for my dog Alex and me. Cant thank them enough.
This morning we have suffered the most unimaginable heartache. Yesterday morning our pup, Xena, started coughing with a pinkish/red foam, that we thought was blood. She had dug under the fence (her literal ONLY flaw) and slipped her yard the day before & we were concerned that she might have gotten into something bad in one of our buildings or in the neighbors buildings, or swallowed something she shouldn’t have. She was ok otherwise & wagging her tail happily as she set off to the emergency vet to get checked out & have a full work up. Once there it was the usual speal about money- paying in full & money, money, money.. We made it inherently clear that we were concerned she got into something, that she was a member of our family & we didn’t care what the cost was- if there WAS a problem, that we catch it in time to treat it accordingly & get her back to her girls, our 3 children. Jared was there with her all day, they ran all kinds of tests, x rays, bloodwork, much to our financial detriment- we agreed to EVERY single care plan they suggested. After all of that they gave her medicine to bind any toxins, charcoal to clear her system & ASSURED us that she was absolutely FINE & that there was NO blood in what she was essentially throwing up, that it was just the color of whatever she ate that upset her tummy. To bring her home & allow her to rest overnight & follow up with our regular vet- if even necessary, on Monday.Jared told them multiple times that we live in a rural area & our biggest concern was poisoning of some kind, that he needed to be sure that she was ok & would recover FULLY- no matter what the cost. He was then assured that she had zero toxins in her system, all of her organs were perfect & she was fine. IF there was anything, that it would bind to the medication & pass naturally without harm. They came home. We followed instructions. She slept most of the evening & went out to go potty as usual. This morning, we woke up to find her hemorrhaging & barely clinging to life. Jared grabbed blankets & ran her to the car & raced off to the same, ONLY available emergency vet.. Our sweet, beautiful, beloved Xena passed away on the way to the vet. This last year our girls have lost 2 of the most precious people in their lives. Xena was always there to play & make them laugh through the heartache. She protected them fiercely & would “heard” them back together if they strayed apart while playing outside. This dog, wasn’t just a dog, she was our family, our baby. They have lost their best friend today. We can’t help but feel like we failed her somehow, when in fact the only thing we did wrong was trust these so called professionals with our precious girl.Do NOT ever, under any circumstances, trust or rely on the Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford. They DO NOT have any emotional or human investment in what they do, only the goal of financial gain. We would have agreed to ANYTHING, ANY AMOUNT, to save our baby girl. We no longer have that option because of these people. Our family’s hearts are shattered.Xena, baby.. I will never forgive myself for taking their word when my gut told me otherwise.I hope you are running with Grampy, chasing all of the squirrels in heaven.I will not rest until I have justice in your name & for your life being taken from us. I’m so sorry. If the only reason for you running this clinic is for financial gain, SHAME on each & every one of you. YOU had the opportunity to save her life. We would have paid any amount- and she is gone. I hope that weighs as heavily on your hearts as it does ours, but something tells me it won’t.
Ill start out by saying my boyfriend spoke to the clinic 3 times on the phone before we actually ended up taking our dog in for vomiting and tremors. When we got there we checked in and were taken straight to a room. After x-rays and multiple things being done for the care of our animal we were on our way out the door 4 hours later. When we checked out they gave us the balance and I asked them to put it in payments. It wasnt until then I was told all payment had to be made at time of care. They stated that my boyfriend was told that on the phone, he says he wasnt told. Either way, why was that not explained when we checked in, why do they not ask for a card up front and why is that not posted anywhere in this facility? The vet, Dr. Kumon then came out raising her voice to us, and suggesting we call our moms and dads to handle this! How ridiculously rude and disrespectful! I now have been made to feel guilty for getting my dog help. I offered to pay a small amount, she basically laughed at me and I left crying. What horrible people!
I am extremely pleased with them taking care of my cat. The abdominal surgery was successful and hes slowly getting better. Well worth the price if that means making sure my pet is happy and comfortable and that is exactly what they did for him. I would recommend, 5/5 definitely.
This place is sooooooo rude, today I went to go pick up dog and the second I walked in the door I was told to have a seat. The Receptionist didn’t not even Acknowledges me. Then when it was time for my dog to leave I said “thank you so much”, she not once looked at me or said your welcome. I felt out of place because of color of my skin and she made it so obviously that was the reason why she acting in such an unprofessional way. If it wasn’t for the sake of my dog life, I would have never come here after reading the reviews. Literally disgusted how I was treated today
Having a sick pet can be extremely stressful, especially on a Saturday night when your regular vet office is closed on Sundays. With that being said, Ive used this office twice and both visits were good. The receptionist was a veterinary technician (I believe), and addressed all of my questions and concerns in detail over the phone prior to our visit. The facility was clean and well managed. The doctor and staff were very comforting and knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions (I ask many questions). They provided me with an itemized and sequential diagnosis and treatment plan (example, this is the minimum, but we may need to do these things as well). They frequently checked in with me in the exam room while treating my pup. This is an emergency clinic and so I expected costs to be a bit higher than my normal veterinary clinic. They were a bit higher, but nothing unreasonable or surprising.I must say that I am more than a bit annoyed after reading some of these reviews. Adopting and caring for an animal is a choice. Occasionally, injury or illness occurs and can be quite expensive. But this is part of the responsibility of having a pet. I know many vets, and they would treat every animal for free if they could; however, clinics need money to stay open. I could not do a vets job because I could not handle dealing with pet owners who do not consider health costs and then blame the vet when something catastrophic occurs.I feel safe in assuming than many of the complaint reviews here come from people that most likely do not have a regular vet, or do not take their pets in for regular exams. If you cant afford to put money aside for vet bills or get a pet care card or pet insurance, then you may want to reconsider bringing that cute little puppy or kitten home in the first place. My only complaint about this clinic is that the water in the water cooler was not cold, which really has nothing to do with the care that my pup received.
To say this clinic cares about your animal would be generous. They only care about money. And it’s upsetting. They abuse the fact that they’re the only emergency clinic in the area to mistreat your pet and overcharge you. Even their employees encourage you to wait and take them to a real vet. Calling this clinic an emergency is a lie. It’s a life or death clinic. Only use if death is the other option.Edit: The owners response doesn’t include the false help they provide. My cat suffered the entire 1.5 hours he had to endure because they didn’t have their money. You want to act high and mighty, at least act like you care. And regarding my situation, I had called 2 hours before to pick up and still waited 10 minutes to be given a bill that I could either pay or let my animal die. After getting multiple loans, I was “allowed” by this clinic to bring my cat to a real clinic after waiting 40 more minutes.Owner. You’re a disgusting human.
Great experience, compassionate veterinarian and staff. As a fellow veterinarian, I was so pleased with the communication and the care provided to my patient that had a post-operative complication. Dr. Cohen was caring, compassionate and provided excellent care. Thank you for all that you do!
They only care about the money! My bulldog needed to have an emergency spay because she had pyometra. They needed half of the low end estimate. which was 800. Had her run my card not realizing that my banking was down due to upgrades on Saturday and wouldnt b open until the following Tuesday. So I had to take her home. My husband had 1000 on a credit card, so we took her back and they wanted the whole amount of the low estimate which was 1700. So I had to take her back home again. The drs were rude. Kept asking me if I wanted to give her to animal control since I couldnt afford the surgery. I tried telling her over and over that I have the money, but they didnt want to wait until Tuesday for it. So she just kept as in me to turn her over to animal control.
We had a great experience with this clinic. We brought our very sick cat in and they helped to save his life. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and caring. Dr. Yocum was wonderful. She called us in the middle of the night to let us know he had made it safely through the procedure. I am very grateful to have this clinic in our area!
I had to put my beautiful Grayson down today. It was so much harder than I thought it would be. The staff was phenomenal, and took my grieving into consideration prior to doing anything. I got to have all the time I wanted with him before and after and got to hold my precious little one as he left this world. I sure will miss him, but Im thankful that he is no longer suffering. Im extremely grateful for the kind and considerate treatment we received today from you. Thank you from the bottom of my ♥️
Dr. Yocum went above and beyond while we were trying to save our beloved dog from rapidly declining kidney and liver issues. The care she received from Dr. Yocum and staff was beyond what we expected. Everything was explained in detail, from diagnosis to costs. Unfortunately we could not save our dog but we are confident she had the best care at this clinic.
Took my dog here when she was hit by a car years ago. No only was the visit insanely expensive, but as soon as I got my dog on the table n had her looked at they said she needed to be put down. My dig is a pitbull n a very big sweet heart. She didnt have any internal damage but her front right leg was mauled like it went thru a meat grinder. They wrapped her n cause n sent her home with me since I could not afford to leave her over night n I didnt want to leave her with people who wanted to put her down(seemed like because of her breed not the accident.) Took her to her vet the next day n he said she just needed to heal nothing was broken that I should give her pain med to help n cover her wound in honey and granulated sugar to help the tissue growth n keep out infection. A few month later she was right as rain. Now she is 12 years old and this morning I woke up to let her out n she was stumbling n couldnt walk straight n was weak, so I carried her outside where she I stably let herself be relieved on my deck which she never does so I know there is something wrong, my wife made an appointment here today without my knowledge and I will not be going. I will be taking her to her vet in the morning cause I refuse to take my animal to these people when all the want is money n death. And if I do need to put her down Id rather have it be the vet I k ow and trust than money hungry people that are bias based on the type of dog you have
This clinic takes advantage of the pet owner at their most vulnerable time, they should be ashamed of themselves. My regular vet was open but did not have a surgical team so they sent me across the street to this clinic. Low end $1800 high end $2800 for a emergency spay which should not have cost more than $300, I expected a little higher. I left but had to pay the $130 for their time and drove an hour to Fox Lake Animal hospital Dr. Bo. Excellent vet, best in the state! $400 NOT $2800 as this clinic quoted. Again they take advantage of you at a very vulnerable time. Our friend is there right now because his Vet is closed due to the Holiday, no clue what they will do.
I asked for a simple blood test, because my regular vet said it would show us why she had blood while throwing up and bloody diarrhea. Took us over 2 hours to be seen by the vet tech. The vet said this and that. Again, I said I just wanted a simple blood test. The vet sa said, she had to write up a an estimate. The vet tech came in and showed me an estimate for $716.00. This test would take an hour or more to come back (she wanted me to hff ave a full blood panel done). So it was reaching 3 hours for anything to be done, with the test it would if been over 5 hours total. I was so mad as t their lack of intelligence... I just walked out, and prayed. Professor Feste, Ive used this place more than 3 times. This last visit was a crock, go ahead and comp li aint about their water.. So disrespectful as a human being. Yes, pets are expensive, yes, they cost more, I fully understand. They were only worried about getting more t hff another $300 I gave usually spent. ..
Well, we brought our boy in after he hurt his back leg/hip in the back yard and couldnt get up. He was a little better by the time the DR was able to see him but still non weight bearing. They were professional but so caring and kind to us and our boy. They put a nonslip mat and comforter down on the floor for his comfort. Get job taking care of our boy!
I do not recommend coming here unless your pet is bleeding out. A visit with no treatment is over 300.00. Lady over the phone is so rude, all she cared about was that I brought money to be able to pay for a visit. Everytime I mentioned a symptom, she would disregard and ask if I had enough to come. Also, my friend brought his dog here and they let his dog die because they would not offer any payment plans. I truly hope these employees experience a loss of a family member because they have let so many families pets die in the name of cash. We treat our pets like family, not as a commodity.
Today was a sad day for me. I had to say goodbye to my 15 year old dog Casey. Everyone at the clinic treated me with respect and explained what was going to happen in detail. It was much appreciated. It is the second time I have had to do this and I want to thank the doctor and staff.
Our four legging baby had blood in her urine and was throwing up. After our vets office hrs so didnt have much choice. Called and was put on hold. 6 minutes later still holding, called on land line and got a receptionist. First thing out of her mouth was that they charge $88 for the emergency fee. They took xrays of her stomach ( for blood in her urine) and $442 dollars later she was sent home. Read all the reviews it seems these people put money above all others. Will never go back again. I will drive to any other vet before I get ripped off again.
Called because I am babysitting a kitten who started to get sick on me and I suspected worms and started to panic a little. It was almost 7PM when Kaitlyn answered and gave me some great advice and really put my mind at ease. Keep her around. She is very smart and extremely friendly. Thank you Kaitlyn!
I took my 3 1/2 year old dog in in the beginning of July and was told that she had an infection but they couldnt determine where its location was and to follow up with our vet. I gave her the medication and followed up with our vet. They said it didnt look like cancer. I took her I to our vet and she still had the same symptoms. He examined her and drew fluid from lymph nodes and she was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. This past Saturday night she passed away. This all took less than a month. I I called this clinic a d was given enough the excuse that cancer is hard to determine . All this tells me is that they are incompetent. I will never recommend this place, NEVER.
Brought in a stray in very bad shape on a Sunday afternoon. The were very kind, very informative, and I have great hopes we will be able to find a home for her. In regard to bedside manner, it is important, but on the phone they have to inform you of the cost up front, otherwise people would drop off animals and just leave. And, all things being equal, I rather have an emergency vet that is excellent in emergency medicine, than all smiles and not know how or what to do to save a life.
I am a local veterinarian and needed assistance with my own dog last night as it was quite late and my own clinic was closed. My Victor was treated quickly and with care, and I was impressed by the skill of the veterinary technicians that helped handle his care. Thank you AEC! Youve got a great team of compassionate people.
Very compassionate, we had to put our very loved baby down. One early morning. They were carrying. They sent a sympathy card. Which they all personally signed. And called me when his ashes were ready. Its a very hard thing to do. But when you get the compassion it means a lot. Thank you all for trying to help us through our tough time.
Absolute horrible place they don’t care about nothing but money I brought in a six week old puppy that I got that day and the puppy sat there for over four hours without giving her fluids even though we knew when was she came in That she was severely hydrated And after the care plan that we agreed on for the price Which was 24 to 48 hours of care after only 16 hours I was already over that price that we originally discussed and they are advising me to put the Pup down They wanted to do it so bad that they were willing to do it for free I decided to pick the puppy up because I feel like she hasn’t had enough of a chance yet and continue care of my own and take her somewhere else
My fiance and I adopted our puppy, Bentley, from a rescue organization and he immediately began to rapidly decline in health. At AEC, he was diagnosed with Parvo. Dr. Thrall and the staff began a treatment plan that turned our very sick and dying dog into the radiant and energetic puppy he is supposed to be. I couldnt be more impressed with the professionalism, knowledge, and care that AEC demonstrated during Bentleys treatment. We felt confident in AECs abilities and want to thank you for saving our little pup.
I had taken one of my dogs there a few years ago and was not impressed. I needed an emergency vet last night, and when I called, they were extremely rude. I wasnt sure if I needed to bring my dog in, so I told her a few of his symptoms, and she said with an attitude in her voice So what. Do you want to bring your dog in or not? In an emergency they are not helpful nor comforting to owners. We went to the emergency clinic in Janesville instead, since we will never be so much as calling this clinic again.
You do not bring your pet to the E-vet for the price, or convince im sorry.... it will be expensive and could be a heart breaking exsperiance. But each and every person here loves and treats your baby with respect. Unfortunately we didnt get to bring ours home...ita not because of costs or the employees who i may add were just as heart broken as my family was...he was too little, too far, and the wonderful vet was 100% honest every step and understood when I told her I wont let our baby be in pain
I have had great experiences with this place, took my American Bulldog named Joey there back in 2001 with Parvo, he was almost dead and they brought him back to live another 11 years, today we had a young kitty that we just adopted, she wouldnt eat, the receptionist was compassionate and gave great advise on feeding her baby food, it worked. They arent all about the money like another review stated, they do care about your pets, people forget that the animal hospital has taxes, light bill, and expenses to pay too so if you want a place available to take your pet in the middle of the night on a Saturday or Sunday when it is sick dont complain about the bill. Its not much more than a regular visit at your daytime vetrinarian.
People answering the phones are EXTREMELY rude. Impossible to speak to a doctor to actually get questions answered. Would NEVER recommend. The vets were great (based on the MINIMAL times I was able to actually speak to them) ..EVERYONE else was rude, unsympathetic and unprofessional. I understand they are busy, but THIS IS YOUR JOB. You deal with the public during a stressful time with their animals....Perhaps another line of work would be more suitable.
Called to see if I could take my puppy in since he wasn’t eating & was vomiting a lot. When I called I asked how much would it would be if I took him in, because I wanted to make sure I had the money, they said it was going to be $173.00 for the consultation and the parvo test. I was told any additional charges would be until we chose what treatment we wanted for the puppy. So I took him, we arrived, sadly parvo test came out positive. Not sure what other tests they ran on the puppy. But one thing for sure is we never got asked if it was ok for them to run more tests on him, they just sent us an email telling us how much the treatment would be for parvo, which ended up being 4,000 and something dollars, so after we had that information in our hands we ended up deciding to take our puppy to a different clinic where the prices were a little lower. This is my first time having a pet and I explained that to them, so it was my first time ever dealing with a vet clinic. I thought they would have payment plans or something, turns out they don’t. I asked them when I could pick my puppy up to take him to the other clinic, they said I could pick him up the next day but I had to pay from $931.00 to $1,000 and something dollars in order for me to take my puppy out of there. I was like whoa why ? I told them I was told it would only be $173.00 for today’s visit, no one ever told me it would be THAT MUCH. I asked why did it go from $173.00 to a 1,000 so they sent me an email with all the tests they ran on him, tests we never asked or said it was ok for them to run on my puppy, we were thinking it was only going to be the parvo test and that’s it. I asked them what other options they had and they seriously told me the only other option I had if I couldn’t pay that whole amount when picking him up was for them to just give him the euthanasia injection. After reading all the negative reviews I still decided to give this clinic a shot and boy do I regret it because everyone that stated this clinic only cared about the money and not the animals lives were ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. I wasn’t asking for everything they did on my puppy to be free, I was just asking for some type of payment plan and they basically told me to pay up the whole amount or they’ll just kill my puppy since he was already sick and suffering. Garbage place and inhuman, insensitive people they showed no compassion whatsoever. First time having a pet and going to a vet & it was the most horrible experience. No more pets for me. 🪦RIP Anubis🖤 really going to miss you buddy 💔💔
Found it very thoughtful that after my dog passed, this clinic sent me a caring staff-signed sympathy card and beautiful 4-color printed enclosure of poem at Rainbow Bridge. The poem is so meaningful it made me cry; served to confirm my hope of one day being reunited with my beloved Chihuahua Spirit puppy. Also, when at the clinic at time of emergency (12/1/17) all doctors were caring; however, young female vet tech the best as she presented me a clay casting of Spirits front paws and spoke with me at great length sharing all indications that Spirit passed without pain and appeared to pass while asleep (he died in car enroute to hospital from Rock Falls where vet refused care due past office hours [7pm on a Friday; BOYCOTT RIVER RIDGE ANIMAL HOSPITAL, DIXON; MANY COMPLAINTS!!]). Same vet tech shared his front paws appeared in peaceful praying position. All in all, clinics performance went beyond the call of duty. For this I will be forever grateful. Thank you. Donna Paczesny, Rock Falls, IL.
Focused on profit. Will not disclose fees prior to visit.Asked for a fee on an abdominal xray,1 view. They would not give me a price.Trust me ,Im not close to a beginner with animal care. Whats wrong with full disclosure?I also had a brain dead dog years ago.Looking back there was no hope yet they continued to pad that bill.I do not trust these people, neither should you. From now on I take my chances and wait til Monday.
I have not used this vet clinic yet, but from the extremely rude attitude the person on the phone gave me when I called to ask information to be prepared in case of an emergency, I can gather that the bedside manner at the actual clinic, would be horrendous, if it is anything like their phone etiquette. I hope I dont ever have to go there. I might take the longer route to another vet, even in an emergency; It might be worth it to get kind and respectful care for my pets.
My puppy was imported from Sweden and was fine for the first two weeks that he was here. As all my dogs go crazy for their food, when Shamus did not eat two meals I knew he was ill. I took him in to the AEC and they diagnosed Parvoenteritis and his treatment started. Every time I phoned I was given an update and when his condition changed I was contacted. He spent 11 nights in the clinic and due to the diligence of the DVMs and clinic staff he survived. I fully endorse this clinic as the place to go when you are having an emergency with your animal. All DVMs have outstanding credentials in their field. A very happy puppy who is glad to be back home!
Thank you for taking such good care of our little Valentine. The staff was very helpful and the estimate for services was on point. They talked us through all procedures and even allowed us to pay half the cost, and pay the rest at the time of pick-up.My only complaint is that we waited for five hours to be seen. Overall it was a good experience.
We visited the clinic, about 3 am, maybe 12 years ago. Sinbad, our cockatiel, woke us up, thrashing in his cage. We had a small bell, hanging from a small chain. Somehow, he had the hook snagged in his beak! Wonderful to know our furry, feathered or whatever, friends have someone to help them at anytime.
They sabe my chihuahua life...She was having couple more hours to live cause the last puppy was cross pushing up and the mom was pushing down...so i run to hospital and they told me lulu have only couple hours left cause she was teying for so long to birth the puppy..she only delivery 3 of 4....
I think our community is blessed to have Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford. Whether in person or on the phone, Ive always been treated as if I were family. The professionals there are knowledgeable, courteous, and caring. Its comforting to know I can rely on them in times of need.
I’ve had to come here twice in about 8 years. Both times the staff and doctor were very nice and empathetic with what I was going through. I dont Know where these negative reviews are coming from. It’s more expensive than your normal vet... just like the ER is more than ur primary care docs office.
Ive had a bad experience w this place too... they are all about the money. They were trying to charge us tons of money that we had to pay THAT DAY before I could even get my ALREADY DEAD guinea pigs body back (since they said they couldnt do anything) just so I could have the closure of burying him. Now after reading all these stories I wonder if Id taken my piggy somewhere else, maybe hed survived...
AWFUL. The vet was rude and they have no compassion what so ever. they looked at our dog as a dog where as we seen him as family. The vet mocked how Unknowledgeable we were about the situation and proceeded to say yeah try going to vet school for 7 years then you can diagnose him and then continued to tell us our dog was dying. They need to be shut down. DO NOT GO THERE. I am not kidding what so ever
The worst absolutely WORST place you could ever call for medical advice on your pet or take there. Teresa over the phone was rude would not give any kind of advise. My pets death was a result of their neglect and refusal to help in any way possible. They will pay for this!
Had to take my dog there , hillcrest wasnt opened yet, they gave my dog the care he needed, transfer him to hillcrest when opened, it was on a fri , my dog had to stay in the vet hospital, which he had to go back for the weekend at the emergency clinic, I visited him often, all I can say they took very good care of my dog, if it wasnt for them I believe I would of lost my dog, a bit pricey , Otis came home Sunday night, Thank you very much for taking care of otis...☺
Brought my dog in for a serious issue and all they were worried about was money being approved over the well being of my dog horrible people will never reccomend to anyone animals are just as important as humans and should be treated as such not as an object for money
What a joke of an establishment unfriendly and not at all compassionate during the time we had to put our cat to sleep the vet tech was a miserable person if you dislike your job so much maybe you should find another line of work I would suggest if at all possible don’t bring your animals to this terrible place
Horrible vet, they dont care about the animals at all and are worthless, sent a women home with a gravely injured dog with an IV with no instructions and the IV was clamped off so the poor dog couldnt get any of the pain medication, thanks to this vet that poor dog had a slow and painful death if I could give less than 1 star I would!

2022-05-10My 14 year old dog suddenly collapsed on the floor, and he wouldnt move. Just a few minutes prior he was drinking water, and then nosing a few toys around. My partner highly recommended Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford. I was treated very kindly by the person who answered the phone. It was a 40 minute drive from my home, during which I never expected I wouldnt be taking my dog back home. When we arrived, they immediately took him inside to examine. It didnt take a very long time before we were invited into a room to talk to the vet. She informed us, very gently, that she had bad news, and that my dog had an irreversible condition that was causing him severe distress. So, with a very heavy heart, I decided that putting him down was his best option. They brought in my little Chazz sedated but conscious, wrapped in a blanket, so we could say goodbye in the amount of time we needed. Then, when we requested, the vet came in to deliver a final dose of medication for him. He just quietly closed his eyes. This was the calmest, gentlest end for any of my pets that Id ever witnessed, and the crew at this clinic were absolutely the most thoughtful people Ive encountered at an animal hospital. That same evening I was turned down by another animal clinic in another suburb, telling me I had to wait till morning because they were too busy. Had I done that, my little guy would have suffered terribly. I cant thank these amazing people enough for making a truly painful event a little less so. If you need care of this sort, this is the clinic to choose. They are the best.

2022-04-06I had the heart-wrenching experience of witnessing my sweet and kind dogs very quick complete personality change due to a suspected brain tumor, making him unsafe to be around. To have to make the decision euthanize my dog down on a weekend was horrible but necessary. The staff at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford was beyond caring and understanding. It was a peaceful and dignified experience from end to end. THANK YOU for making something very hard as peaceful as possible. Grateful!!!

2022-07-03Thank you to the staff and doctors at Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford - they were so wonderful in treating our senior Akita today! There was a significant wait time but they were upfront and honest about it and we decided to leave her with them. The Doctor communicated clearly with us at each step and the reception staff was working hard to serve all the anxious pet parents 😉. Thank you for all you do and we hope to not see you again, but if there is a need we will definitely be back!

2022-06-24My family had two experiences in the last 2 weeks with the clinic. First for our cat who was sick and needed to be hospitalized and then when my mothers dog had to be euthanized. In both instances, the staff was compassionate, helpful, and knowledgeable. I cannot express how much I appreciate the vets, techs, and receptionists for their empathy and assistance.

2022-03-01Everyone I interacted with there was pleasant and helpful. Animal emergency services, especially after hours are understandably expensive, but in my case the services provided came in less than anticipated in cost. Thanks so much to everyone there for taking good care of my family member, hope we don’t need to use the services in the future, but if we do, I won’t hesitate to bring my pets here. Special shout out to Dr. Cohen for her thorough explanation of the situation and our options.

2022-05-25Tonight we had to put our hero Husky down due to multiple medical issues, some chronic and one that was quite sudden and left us no choice. Everyone is always so quick to say oh that emergency place is SOOO expensive, etc. I cant tell you how absolutely professional, pleasant and caring the staff was during the entire process. The fee was much less than we had expected. It was very reasonable. We were allowed to take as much time as we needed. They treated our Kobe with the most delicate and loving hands and, for that, I would highly recommend them.

2022-06-03We brought our 6 wk old kitten there over memorial day weekend because he started having seizures. When we got there they were very friendly and helpful. Even though they were extremely busy, they got out little man to the back right away. A few hours later the dr called and was very nice. She explained everything well. Unfortunately we had to put our kitten down that night. When we went in to say our goodbyes we were put in a nice clean room. We had privacy and everyone was very nice. The building is very clean. We had Dr. Yocum and she was great! The staff answering the phones were very nice and I thought they handled how busy they were that weekend very well.

2022-05-17I took my dog, who was in pain and shaking violently, to the Animal Emergency Clinic. She was clearly in need of emergency care. The receptionist told me that they would not treat my dog. She recommended that I take her to Chicago. She then walked away and would not let me out of the building. All without even looking at my dog. The staff are horrible people who lack compassion and professionalism. Save your time (and money) and go elsewhere, they will undoubtedly turn you away regardless.

2022-03-05Disgusting place with disgusting people that don’t care about their patients. My mom just brought her dog who’s giving birth because only one came out and she thought there would be more, well there a second and the puppy is stuck and they told her they “could get this over with and just euthanize her” because my mom doesn’t have 2000$ up front for the EMERGENCY surgery. How dare you be a veterinarian??? I’m so repulsed. Would never trust my pets with you.

2022-08-20Is zero stars an option? We just got a new pup who woke up not doing well today. A few hours later, the puppy had a seizure. We brought him in to this clinic. Upon arrival, the front desk ladies are so sweet and kind. Tiffany helped us and she was amazing! They begin with a parvo test... ok. Didnt show anything. Then they continue to do an wellness exam. Well okay- no kidding the dogs isnt doing well. Hes barely moving and just had a seizure. I dont need an exam to tell me this. Upon the doctor calling me back, she provided zero information or any findings of the exam. She didnt go over any information, simply asked if we feed the dog because he seems underweight. The dog is a mini doodle mix and is expected to be 20 lbs full grown. Hes 12 weeks and weighed in at 8 lbs. This is not abnormal weight. I go to the counter and the front desk lady begins to explain to me his glucose and some other levels were ok, gums were a little pink... you know findings from the exam. I had to ask the front desk people to go over this. When I attempted to ask the doctor the findings, she was extremely rude and offered no care or assistance other than to admit him overnight for an $1,000+ seizure watch. I said I live 5 minutes away and can watch the dog & if symptoms worsen, I can bring him back. I wouldve continued to do blood services and such but with the level of no care or kindness or any sort of professionalism from the doctor... no thanks. Again, the front desk lady Tiffany was great. No concerns at all. The doctor, Jennifer I think her name is, offered 0 help and was quite rude. Quite ridiculous. We requested to speak to her in the exam room, she wouldnt even come out for one minute to discuss the findings with us. Skip this place x100! Highly suggest not going unless a do or die emergency. Even at that rate...
