I had my first visit here today and was really impressed. I was able to get all of my paperwork done online and only had to sign a couple forms when I arrived. They did not keep me waiting in the foyer or in the dentist chair. Dr. Rizvi and Rosa are the best! They did x-rays and filled 3 cavities in no time. The consultation was fabulous as Dr. Rizvi explained everything thoroughly. Exceptional service rendered, even by the billing and front office staff.---------------------------------------Update:My second and third visit...Rita did a deep cleaning on my gums. Its a major procedure and has to be done in 2 visits because only half of my mouth can be worked on at a time. I had this same procedure done about 12 years ago at another dentist and it was super painful. Rita did such a better job. She did a great job in making sure I was completely numb, she even stopped and gave me another shot half-way through because it was starting to hurt. Last time it took almost 2 weeks for my gums to heal, but this time, I healed up in just a couple days. On top of that, my teeth and gums are in better shape than ever before. Rita is awesome.
Well it turns out both of the 2000 dollar crowns they put in here were done wrong and now another dentist is redoing them and using the crown pictures and x-rays to show new students at midwestern university dental how not to do crowns. Save yourself the headache go anywhere else,Those cheap drive ups you see on the news in india would probably do a better job and they don’t have running water. . i wish i could put pictures up here. what a joke this place is.
Thank you Rita the Hygienist for an awesome cleaning! She made me feel comfortable the entire appointment and was very informational. Highly recommend Rita at 1st Family Dental in Elgin! Ive been over due for a cleaning and my teeth feel great after she finished my cleaning. Thank you Rita and 1st Family for a great experience.
If you want a dental hygienist that is thorough and unbelievably friendly, then you need to visit Rita at 1st Family Dental of Elgin. I hated going to the dentist every six months, but now that I met Rita - its a piece of cake! She always checks up on me and asks if Im doing OK during cleaning and she makes the process pain-free. If you want your teeth in the best condition - you need to visit Rita!
Do not go here if you want a thorough cleaning. The desk staff was really friendly however the girl doing my teeth was super rough and didn’t really do anything different than what I could have done at home on my own. The doctor didn’t tell me much of what needed to be done. Someone else came in and threw extremely high numbers at me for prices and apparently if you want a thorough cleaning it’s only $650. Seriously a joke. Will never go back. It did teach me to ask questions though before making an appointment with a new dentist.
1st Family dental went out of their way to insure I had an excellent experience. The doctor who was working on my case had an emergency and was unavailable during my appointment, so another doctor stepped up and took care of my procedure. This saved me from a lot of hastle. Everyone at the office is extremely professional, and continue to provide an excellent service. Thank you!
This place deserves zero stars. Dr. Poles is extremely rude. I waited an hour and a half for him to clean my teeth. He made extremely rude remarkable comments about my teeth. Please go somewhere else where you’ll be treated better. I will say that the front desk staff is amazing!
Let me start off by saying that I have had major anxiety at the thought of going to the dentist. The only reason I come back every 6 months is to see Nahrain who is an amazing dental hygienist. She is the only person that I trust with my teeth. She understands me and works with me, especially when taking x-rays. She takes her time and makes sure that I am in no pain during the cleaning. She answers all of my questions and really makes me feel comfortable. I have to say that I no longer fear the dentist and I owe it all to her.
These people are not humans, they are angels!...I chipped a piece of one of my back teeth while eating, called to make an appointment I was scheduled an appointment the same day. Dr. Akhikar worked on my tooth followed by Assistant Rosa. In less then one hour I was done, they put a temporary fill and cap and was given an appointment in a couple weeks for a permanent crown.I cant say enough in regards to the front desk people who are so professional, considerate and caring. I usually dont like doctors waiting areas but this place is so different the space, the big windows, the TVs the magazines, the colors it is so relaxing and I enjoy sitting and waiting.
I went the for a possible broken tooth. I saw Dr. Poles and he hardly even looked at my teeth. They took a few X-rays. I explained to him that I have always been afraid to go to the dentist and he was the most insensitive dentist I have ever met. He said that I had 6 cavities and needed 3 root canals and 3 crowns. I told him I was only feeling bad pain in the tooth I didn’t even crack. He told me that I was having pain in a completely different tooth on my lower jaw! (Pain was on upper jaw.) He was very aggressive while shoving the cotten in my mouth and I explained it hurt and he clearly was annoyed. I received and estimate for $5200 and with insurance coverage about $3800 I would have to pay. I left there crying because he was rude, insensitive, and now I might have to pay $3800!!! I went for a second opinion because I didn’t trust him and I only have 3 cavities, no broken tooth, and don’t need any root canals or crowns at all. The other dentist looked at the X-rays and she said they where such bad quality that they should have retaken them all. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. I contacted them twice to talk to a manager and still have heard nothing. I don’t like writing reviews but I am so unhappy and unpleased that someone can “treat” a person like this.
Worst Customer Service. My appointment was on a Monday @5:30pm. They did NOT Pre-Run my insurance and tried to tell me after taking X-rays that I had no insurance. They were given my insurance information the day I made the appointment and a copy of my card when I arrived at the office. When I told the dentist I did indeed have insurance, I was told my insurance was closed so they could not tell me the cost of services and would call me the next day......it has been 4 days since my visit and not a single call.
Great service, Dr. Poles wrote an excuse for me as I had to cancel my Airline reservation due to the pain and infection in my tooth. He also prescribed the medication needed to resolve my problem. Once my appointment was made, no waiting time, lots of personnel to handle patients. Highly recommended.
My first time here and the professional of the office was above what I expected!!! Polite.. thourgh.. caring... from the front desk to the assistant to the dentist himself.. they all seem genuinely caring... I cracked my denture ... my insurance changed I called 15 dentist that supposedly take my insurance but no one would help..When I called 1st Family from the start profession!! Got me in that day !!! And did what they could till my next appointment.. friendly professional staff.... was amazed and grateful .
Ive been a patient of dr. Akhikar for over 10 years. Dr. Akhikar is very professional yet friendly. He has a great experience and is excellent in his field. He will walk you through a procedure and will answer any questions or concerns you have. The entire staff are very kind and friendly. I would definitely recommend 1st Family dental for anyone whose looking for an excellent dental care in a friendly environment.
Iv been coming to first family dental since 2004 with all seven of my children and my husband I highly recommend them to everyone the staff is very friendly I wouldnt go to any other dental place!!!! Receptionist hygienists and my Doctor is very thorough and I love that they explain details to me and take their time with me and my family I love you first family dental
Decided to drive all the way to Elgin to see Dr. Scott Hsia after he moved from the Arlington Heights office, where I first saw him.. It was a wise decision. He is a great dentist and I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a dental professional with integrity (will give you an thorough evaluation and honest opinion of your options/choices like I believe he did for me), smarts and knowledge ( was educated at University of Michigan and his Bio says he was in the Honors society); and who strives for excellence (seemed like he spent time assuring both large cavity fillings were perfectly even and would not affect my bite or chewing etc.). I am a legal professional myself (for almost 40 years); and typically a pretty good judge of character, knowledge and skill in other professionals. Dr. Hsia is a dentist I would totally entrust my family and friends care to. I hope to have him as my dentist (and First Family Dental which has excellent staff and hygienists)... for a long time to come!
A few years ago my primary dentist told me that two of my teeth had to be extracted, since he was not specialized to do so, he recommended a dentist that could extract them. The dentist he recommended was out of town and decided to wait since I had no pain. Well one day the crown of my decaying tooth started to chip leaving an exposed nerve, a few days later same issue aroused with the other tooth. Few days went by and the dentist still was out of town. Since I couldnt take the severe pain of the exposed nerve any longer, I wanted the teeth extracted as soon as possible and some how I ended up at 1st family dental. On a tuesday i showed up and asked if I could be seen by a dentists as soon as possible. She needed to know the dental problem and explaind to her my dental problem, and that i need two teeth extracted. She Said the dentist can see me, so I gave her my information took a seat, a few minutes later she calls me up and tells me that my dental insurance was accepted, and that I have a 25 dollars co-pay. As she is putting my info into the computer she tells me that the dentist is all booked up and not be able to see me today, and for what day can she set up the appointment. I said tomorrow Wednesday for the sooner the better. She tells me that the dentist is not in Wednesdays or Thursdays, and the sooner i could be seen is Friday. Why cant I be seen by some other dentist Wed i do not know, since Ive had been there for more than an hour and them having all my info, I told her go ahead and schedule it for Friday as soon as you open. Got my appt for Friday at 11 a.m.. my first visit with the dentist. Friday 11 a.m Ive checked in and expecting to be seen soon. 11:30a.m, I ask the receptionist when will they start to see patients, she tells me that I am the first patient on the schedule, and i would-be seen as soon as the dentist gets in. Finally!!!, 11:45a.m here comes the dentist, he stops at the front desk, has a chat with his assistants, he then goes out of my view. By Noon, Im called in. Sitting in the room waiting for the dentist to come check me out, I hear him talking to some other patient in the next room. Finally he comes in, to get started. he apologizes for the long time waiting. I explained to him whats going on and that of the reason i want to have my teeth extracted, he then tells me, he needs some x-rays of my mouth and he will take it from there. He gets the x-rays and reviews them and tells me that he dont think i need, (so he THINKS he said) to have them extracted. (Dentist does not speak English well, for im having trouble understanding what He is talking about,) He does recommend for each tooth a root canal and crown. I declined that recommendation, I tell him I want them extracted, I know I will have gaps between my teeth, that Im going to get some dental work later in time from my primary dentist and Im only here to get them extracted, for the reason being that of in what a bad shape they are and are decaying. He keeps telling me, best thing is to fix them, than that of extracting for no other dentist would be able to fill in the gap at all. After some time he convinced me to fix them, instead of extracting them. So I needed to make sure the insurance would cover the cost for all the dental work being done on me, so i asked them what will the actual cost for the dental work, and that i do not want a quote, i want and need an actual total of the services, full cost of the work that i will be geting done, that for my insurance would only covers up to so much, only an actual cost of all the fees, is how i would know if i can afford the out of pocket expenses in order to have the full dental work done. They ran my insurance and verified that the dental insurance would and will be able to cover full service of one tooth, since its was the end of the year they said they can still work on both, but what they will and can do, would be to bill my insurance the for the cost of the same amount of coverage it has left to cover, and next year we will Bill your insurance the balance due.
I had a very bad experience in this place. I had an appointment with Dr Polse to extract one of my molar teeth. He told me that he is most experienced Dr . But i feel so bad that he is so incompetent and inefficient dr in my whole life experience. He was unable to extract my tooth. I lost my my money for Ex ray and exam.
The only Dentis I ever been all front desk are very nice all nurses are very good also doctors are the best doctors ever I see and they said the truth and did very good job for me and my family I couldn’t eat before because of my toothache they accepted me as walking 🚶♂️ in they fix the problem same day and I was eating after I left office thank you 🙏 so much for the best job everVidi and aurora and Rosa thank you 🙏 for the best job
To my favorite dentist, Dr. Bilous Poles.Thank you for giving me a beautiful smile!Dr. Bilous Poles, DDS., of First Family Dental, is the best in dentistry. He has a great team of family and staff. They are all top of the line professionals, with superb workmanship, artistry and state of the art equipment. A CEREC Milling Unit (for same day crowns & implants). A lab on site, 3D Imaging, and TV/DVD for his patients to watch while waiting, or just to relax, if they wish. He has other Hi-Tech equipment, as well, to achieve a precision alignment, which goes hand in hand with that perfect smile. His fees are very reasonable, and affordable for all incomes, and he will work with you. He is very caring, compassionate, and patient with a desire to make his patients happy with their results. Dr. Poles is also very good with children, and has a way of making them calm and relaxed. He will always be my dentist, and even though I will be living hundreds of miles away, I will fly or drive to First Family Dental, for all of my dental needs. If you need quality work, at an affordable price, then you need to call Dr. Poles to set up an appointment. You will thank God you did. I do every day....Thank you so much!Always, your most grateful patient,Valliy Dawood
I went for a teeth cleaning appointment today and was attended by a dr. poles. I have never before seen an inefficient and lazy cleaning job before. I find it would have been more beneficial to not have even gone to the appointment even though it was covered 100% under my insurance.
I can honestly say Im not sure which skill Dr. Schlimon excels in most: dentistry or people skills. I can just say thank God for both and for him!! This was my first (AND LAST) root canal, and the way he handled everything (including me) was absolutely invaluable. I think this is the first time I can ever say Im looking FORWARD to going back to the dentist....? If it werent for him, I wouldve just had the tooth pulled -- thank you for knowing what was best for me and financially making it possible!!!
I love my smile! I recently completed invisalign treatment by Dr.Ramzi Dwaibis at First Family Dental, and I had the best experience. I wanted the best smile possible and Dr. Dwaibis exceeded my expectations. Dr. Dwaibis is such a perfectionist and pays attention to every little detail throughout the entire process. It was an easy year and half appointment process and I could not be happier!!!Many thanks to the best staff, after a few visits you are treated like a family they are great group of people…Nadine Soro
WORST DENTIST EVER!!!!! i do not recommend this place to anybody! the dentist is rude and doesnt give you straight forward answers to your questions.. i asked where my cavities were located and he answered with in your mouth seriously? and not to mention that i now have changed dentist and now have to get the 3 teeth that he filled re-filled because they were not done correctly causing my teeth to continue to decay underneath the fillings. Again WORST DENTIST!!
I had a very bad experience here. Not only me but others have complained about having their teeth done and it being a bad job. I went here on Monday for a filling. My appointment was supposed to start at 4:00 pm and we arrived on time but didnt get seen till 5:30 pm. We had to ask about what was happening. They said we were next. They were running late. They numbed me around 5:40 pm and I was still numb until 11 pm. When I asked when the numbing feeling would be gone he said in a hour. That was obviously a false statement, or he did something wrong. Now it is Saturday and my mouth hurts. My tooth where he did the filling hurts badly. I wouldnt recommend this place. Some of my family members have had similar experiences with the same doctor.
First off the dentist are creepy and the lady dentist was rude. They are horriable dont care about your concerns at all and VERY DIRTY, nothing is clean at all, you wait forever and they barley speack english. I had a couple teeth filled there i went to another dentist to find out all those cavities they filled have to be re-filled. Horriable place i wouldnt reccomend them to my worst enemie. If you vaule your teeth dont go here they ruin them!!
This place is a disgrace. The doctors are ridiculously rude. They are beyond passive aggressive, and have zero respect for their patients. By simply asking questions, they get irratated and say that they’re doctors so “they know what they’re doing” and don’t care about one’s opinion. Go to a place where they respect your opinion and don’t disrespect you by asking questions about your health.

2022-05-16As a new patient, I have to say this has been the best dental place I’ve been to. I hate having to go to the dentist but they made the cleaning and cavity filling a super smooth easy experience. I will be recommending this place to everyone!

2022-04-04This practice has ruined my life, and it had taken years for me to actually write this. In 2016 I received my first root canal here. Something was off with the whole thing.. when the entire thing was over, I was in even more pain than before and a black dot on my cap. They said it was normal and the pain will go away. Well it didn’t. It got so much worse and I couldn’t bite down properly. I went back and they said I needed another root canal. And not only did I have to go through that again but they wanted me to pay again. Fortunately the dentist finally agreed to fix his mistake. However, less than a year later the root canal rejected and left me with an abscess tooth. I have had the same tooth root canal 4 times. I have been told that if this was done properly I would not be in this mess.I have tried getting the tooth extracted but the oral surgeon won’t touch it because the tooth is still healthy. So six years later and I am getting a 5th root canal on the same tooth.

2022-03-28They have bad customer service, however the dentist are excellent. In February 2020, I was scheduled for cleaning but due to Covid quarantined it was cancelled and would reschedule till further notice. I called in April 2020, they told me they would call me back. In May 2020, I got a message notification that they reopened. Until to this day, they never called me back for reschedule. I still do get phone messages for record updates and Covid mask requirements.

2021-06-06I had a past filling for my front tooth but it recently broke off. I called to get it fix for a week straight and they told me they hadn’t had any appointments free for 4 weeks. My tooth was withered down a fourth of what it was and ny tongue started getting cut. However when I called yesterday I was told they had an appointment for today at 9am, the lady even told me “let me just make sure your dentist is here tomorrow”. They then continued to let me know I was “All set for tomorrow”. I was so happy and grateful. When I arrived today there were around 4-5 women just standing around gossiping but I didn’t pay any mind to it. I had let the the lady at the desk know about my appointment she told me it didn’t exist. I was then told I had an appointment on the 1st of June. I was confused since I’d been calling all week, which includes June 1st, so they would have told me if I had an appointment. I asked if there was any chance that they could let me stay and get my tooth fixed but they told my dentist wasn’t even there. The lady at the front desk when I called yesterday even told me my dentist was there so I was confused. I had auditions for a musical the same day as the appointment at 9:30am. The only reason I took the appointment was cause my tooth chipping even more and it hurt to breath in and eat. They finally gave me an appointment for next week but this was very upsetting because I was late to my audition, it hurt to sing, and my tooth just keeps getting chipped. My mom even left work early to take me. Honestly there people who work at the desk have always been rude and are horrible at doing there job. This has happened multiple time I’d go for a dentist appointment and then would be told it but this was truly the last straw. If you can, go somewhere else where they actually know how to make and keep your appointments.

2021-08-12I have two FRONT teeth that look terrible from previous root canals (by a different dentistry practice) because I have the temporary molds on instead of the permanent ones, one of which fell out completely. Said dentist no longer accepts my insurance, so I went to FFD to get them to help which they said they would. They have repeatedly sent X-rays to my insurance without adding the proper information. I have called about this multiple times because it has been MONTHS now since they’ve started this process. Every time I’ve been told they’ll do better and handle it. The last time when I went in for a cleaning, I mentioned it to the girl in the front, because it hasn’t been resolved yet, and she said if the insurance doesn’t approve it again they will just consider it denied. They haven’t been willing to do it the right way, and now they won’t help at all. I’m 28, and I’m terrified of opening my mouth for people to see my teeth. They told me they could help, so I’ve waited and waited and nothing has happened and now they just want to deny it due to their incompetence but they’re blaming my insurance. At this point I’m looking for a new dentist office which will actually care about me.

2021-08-27Don’t recommend to come here to begin with ladies in back are very unprofessional but no problem with ladies in the front. Came for a cleaning and left unsatisfied due to bleeding all over and not properly rinsing my teeth had to just clean it myself. Save your time & money.

2021-03-17Made an appointment here to see an oral surgeon 4 weeks ago, it wasn’t until today, the day of my appointment where I was checked in and all...they told me they haven’t had an oral surgeon at this location anymore. They wasted my time, they could of told me way prior. I now have to wait 3 more weeks just for a consultation at their other location. Unbelievable. Don’t recommend this place.

2019-05-23I didn’t have to wait for my appointment. The receptionists are very friendly and answered my questions. My hygienist was awesome - gentle but thorough. The new dentist was very pleasant and also answered my questions. I don’t have dental insurance and the fee was reasonable. Thank you!
